We have an Eastern Conference matchup in the Central Division to open up the season on Wednesday night as the Detroit Pistons take on the Chicago Bulls inside the United Center for our Pistons vs. Bulls prediction. The Pistons were able to finish sixth in the conference last season with a 44-38 record and lost in seven games to the New York Knicks in the opening round of the postseason. The Bulls were 10th in the conference with a 39-43 record last year as they lost in the play-in tournament to the Miami Heat. Your quick scout — NBA picks for Detroit Pistons at Chicago Bulls, you can act on.

Pistons Looking for Another Step This Season

The Detroit Pistons are looking to take another step this season after narrowly avoiding the play-in tournament last season, finishing sixth in the Eastern Conference with a 44-38 record. The team was able to see a significant improvement as they were able to see players like point guard Cade Cunningham take a massive step and make his first All-Star Game. The team would lose in the first round as they lost in seven games to the New York Knicks, but they won their first playoff game since 2008.

The team re-signed Paul Reed while adding Javonte Green, Caris LeVert, Duncan Robinson, and rookie Chaz Lanier. However, they will be without Simone Fontecchio, Tim Hardaway Jr, Dennis Schroder, Lindy Waters III, and Malik Beasley.

Last season, the Pistons were 12th in the NBA as they averaged 115.5 points per game while shooting 47.6% from the floor, 36.2% from the 3-point line, and 77.4% from the free-throw line. They were also able to finish 14th in the league with 113.6 points per game given up while having a 46.1/36.6/77.6 opposing shooting split.

Injury Report for Detroit

  • Shooting guard Jaden Ivey: Knee (OUT)

Bulls Looking to Improve

The Chicago Bulls were able to make the postseason as they were 10th in the Eastern Conference with a 39-43 record after losing in the opening game of the play-in tournament to the Miami Heat. The team was able to end the season strong, going 15-5 in their previous 20 game. However, they saw a bunch of changes during the season. The team ended the Zach LaVine era, but has a bunch of young stars with Josh Giddey, Coby White, and Matas Buzelis being the core that the team is looking to build upon.

The Bulls were active in the offseason as they had a bunch of players either re-sign or join the team as Jevon Carter, Josh Giddey, Tre Jones, Isaac Okoro, and rookies Noa Essengue and Lachlan Olbrich. However, they lost a pair of players as they traded away Lonzo Ball, and Talen Horton-Tucker remains unsigned.

Chicago was a strong offensive team last season as they finished sixth in the sport with 117.8 points per game while shooting 47.0% from the field, 36.7% from beyond the arc, and 80.9% from the charity stripe. Their defense was a significant issue as they were 28th with 119.4 opposing points per game, as the team allowed them to shoot 46.7% overall, 34.4% from distance, and 78.6% from the charity stripe.

Injury Report for Chicago

  • Shooting guard Coby White: Calf (OUT)
  • Power forward Zach Collins: Wrist (OUT)

Detroit Pistons at Chicago Bulls Pick

Spread Pick for Pistons vs. Bulls

  • Detroit Pistons -175 (4 units)

The Detroit Pistons are the better team entering the 2025-26 season and should be able to beat up on a struggling Chicago Bulls team. Both of these teams can make the playoffs this season, with the East being a bit weaker than usual with the injuries, but the Pistons have the building blocks from last year, and we should see another step forward from Cade Cunningham on the court. Yes, people will jump to Chicago, ending the season strong last year, but that is going to be difficult to do out of the gate with people playing harder at the beginning of the season than a late-season game against a team with a bunch of young players. The Pistons have improved around the margins from last season and were already better than the Bulls, so go with the Detroit Pistons to win here.

Over/Under Pick for Pistons vs. Bulls

  • Under 233.5 (4 units)

These teams are going to be focusing on the defensive side of the court as the Pistons built their team to improve on that side of the court, while the Bulls need to showcase better defensive outputs this season if they want to be successful. With the combination of Ayo Dosunmu and Matas Buzelis being solid defensive wings, they can focus on getting stops throughout the beginning of the season. Both sides have a lot of continuity with their roster, meaning their defensive schemes are not new and a majority of the rotational players will be coming in the game focusing on that side of the court. All in all, go with under 233.5 total points.
