Pistons Outlast the Mavericks
Facing the Mavericks in Mexico City, the Pistons used a feverish fourth quarter to pull away with a 122-110 win. Jalen Duren had 33 points and 10 rebounds, and Cade Cunningham added 21 points with a career-high 18 assists. Duncan Robinson added 18 points and Ausar Thompson had 15.
- They outscored Dallas 35-17 in the fourth frame. The Mavericks were playing without Anthony Davis and Dereck Lively II due to injury and had no answer for Duren in Mexico City. The fourth-year center spent the entirety of his time on the offensive end in the restricted area, where he attempted all 16 of his shots.
- In addition to recording his third double-double in six games, Duren notched his second career 30-point game. Shooting 63.8 percent from the field and 84.6 percent from the foul line.
- Robinson also enjoyed his best game as a Piston on Saturday, shooting over 50 percent from the field and recording a season-high point total. The issue thus far has been inconsistency, with Robinson shooting 42.9 percent from the field. However, he’s still averaging 2.5 three-pointers per game, which is basically all Detroit needs him to do.
- F Tobias Harris (ankle) is ? for this game.

Grizzlies On a Back-to-Back
Memphis is in action on Sunday against the Toronto Raptors and will be on the second leg of a back-to-back for this game. The Grizzlies are coming off a 117-112 home loss Friday night to the Los Angeles Lakers in an NBA Cup game after leading by 14 points at halftime.
- They continued a pattern of a win followed by a loss in their six games. Their game in Toronto starts a string of five games in seven days, four at home.
- Grizzlies star Ja Morant was not happy after the loss to the Lakers. He scored eight points on 3-for-14 shooting and did not score in the second half. He was 0-for-2 shooting while playing 8:25 in the fourth quarter, which was 28-21 in the Lakers’ favor.
- Morant had a short answer when asked what went wrong. "Go ask the coaching staff," Morant said. "Go ask him."
- Grizzlies coach Tuomas Iisalo did not address Morant's comments after the game. Morant was asked about his energy level. He plays over 30 minutes a night and is averaging 20.8 points and 6.7 assists per game. Jock Landale and Jaylen Wells led the Grizzlies scorers on Friday with 16 points each. He will be suspended for one game, back for this game against the Pistons.
Pistons vs. Grizzlies Game Pick
Spread Pick for Pistons vs. Grizzlies
- Detroit Pistons (4 Units)
Memphis will be on the second leg of a back-to-back for this game, but they are in a world of hurt at the moment with their star player. Ja Morant was not happy after Friday’s loss and had choice words for his coaching staff. As a result, he has been suspended for one game. Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren went wild in Mexico City, and I like their chances to play well here, facing a Memphis team on a back-to-back. Through six games, Memphis is 20th in defensive rating. Take the Pistons.
OVER/UNDER PICK for Pistons vs. Grizzlies
- UNDER (5 UNITS)
Entering this game against the Grizzlies, Detroit is 20th in pace of play. It is not surprising, as they hovered at or above that mark for the duration of last year, and their primary point guard, Jayden Ivey, has yet to play this season. They went wild against a Mavericks team missing their top two centers, but Memphis will show some resistance here with Jaren Jackson Jr in the paint. I expect Detroit to win, but this will be a grind-it-out defensive battle. Memphis is third in rebounding percentage, so there will not be many easy buckets. Take the under.
