Golden State finally got a result worth celebrating Monday night. The Warriors beat Denver 134-114, ending a three-game losing streak before heading to Minneapolis. Wednesday's game against Minnesota starts at 8:00 pm ET at Target Center and airs on NBA League Pass. Golden State is 1-3, fourth in the Pacific Division. Minnesota holds third place in the Northwest at 3-1 after losing 127-125 in overtime to Cleveland. The Timberwolves had won their opening three games, including a comfortable home victory over Toronto. Browse our free NBA picks for Wednesday's other games.

Golden State Warriors Trying to Build on Denver Win

The Warriors probably wish they'd played more like they did in Denver from opening night. Golden State scored 134 against the Nuggets on Monday, winning by 20 after starting the season with three defeats. The Lakers had beaten them 127-105, Memphis escaped with a 111-108 win, and Phoenix sent the Warriors home following a 131-122 result. Defense has been a recurring problem. Even with Monday's improvement, Golden State has allowed 120 or more points in three of four games.

Stephen Curry has scored 23.5 points per game to start the season, though his outside shooting hasn't been particularly good. He's connected on 29.4% from three. Yaxel Lendeborg has contributed 18.7 points and 8.3 rebounds, offering another scoring option while Golden State deals with injuries. Draymond Green is averaging seven assists. The Warriors have been short on rebounds, collecting 40.3 per game, and that could be a serious issue Wednesday. Minnesota has Rudy Gobert underneath, and Golden State can't afford to keep giving the Timberwolves second looks.

Injuries: Kristaps Porzingis, Moses Moody and Jimmy Butler III are out.

Minnesota Timberwolves Have Made a Good Early Impression

Minnesota's first defeat came Monday in Cleveland, and it took overtime to separate the teams. Anthony Edwards scored 47 points, but the Cavaliers edged the Timberwolves 127-125. Before that, Minnesota had barely been challenged. Miami lost by 25 points, Orlando by 22 and Toronto by 23. The Timberwolves scored 131 against Miami, 115 against Orlando and 117 against Toronto. Their defense was especially impressive in the latter two games, with neither opponent reaching 100 points. Cleveland finally found a way to score consistently against them.

Edwards has averaged 28.7 points through to start the season. LaMelo Ball has provided help in the backcourt, scoring 16 points and handing out 6.3 assists per game. Rudy Gobert has been excellent on the boards, collecting 12.3 rebounds, including four offensive rebounds per outing. Jaden McDaniels has chipped in 15.3 points. Minnesota's 54 rebounds per game stand out when compared with Golden State's 40.3. The Timberwolves have enough size to make those missed shots matter.

Injuries: Donte DiVincenzo is out.

Key To The Game

The Warriors need to find an answer for Gobert on the glass. He's getting four offensive rebounds per game, and Golden State has struggled to match opponents physically near the basket. With Porzingis unavailable, the visitors have fewer options against Minnesota's size. Curry's shooting could help offset that disadvantage, but the Warriors can't depend entirely on three-pointers. Edwards is another concern after scoring 47 against Cleveland. Golden State will have to defend without giving Minnesota repeated opportunities to finish possessions.

Golden State Warriors vs Minnesota Timberwolves Game Pick

  • Minnesota Timberwolves

Golden State got the result it needed in Denver, but Minnesota has looked stronger through the opening week. The Timberwolves won three games by more than 20 points before their narrow overtime defeat in Cleveland. Gobert's work around the basket is particularly important here, considering how badly the Warriors have struggled to rebound. Curry could cause problems if he gets hot from outside, and Golden State clearly has scoring potential after Monday. I just don't see the Warriors getting enough stops against Edwards and Ball. Minnesota has the advantage at home and gets its fourth victory.

Golden State Warriors vs Minnesota Timberwolves Over/Under Pick

  • Under

There's a big difference between scoring 134 against Denver and facing a Minnesota defense that held Orlando to 93 points and Toronto to 94. Golden State has shot just 42.5% from the floor this season, and Curry hasn't found his usual rhythm from long range. Minnesota can certainly put points on the board, but its strong rebounding should help dictate how possessions develop. The Warriors also have fewer options with several players unavailable. I expect Minnesota to make Golden State work harder for baskets than Denver did Monday, keeping the combined scoring lower than the Warriors' latest outing.
