Rockets Win Without Durant
Playing without Kevin Durant for the first time this season, Amen Thompson scored 28 points and Aaron Holiday added 22 off the bench in a 114-92 win over the Phoenix Suns.
- The Rockets won for the 11th time in 13 games, bouncing back from Friday night's loss to the Nuggets. The Rockets took an 84-75 lead into the fourth, and the Suns never got closer than six.
- Thompson shot 10 of 16 from the field and added eight assists and seven rebounds, while Holiday made six 3-pointers. Durant missed the game for personal reasons.
- The Suns traded Durant to the Rockets during the offseason in a seven-team deal in exchange for Dillon Brooks, Jalen Green, and the No. 10 overall pick in the draft, which Phoenix used to select Duke center Khaman Maluach.
- Thompson took over as Houston’s primary offensive weapon with Kevin Durant — averaging a team-high 24.6 points per game — out of the lineup. They were in complete control from the jump of this one. The 22-year-old star has been hot recently, averaging 20.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 2.3 steals over his last three games.

Warriors Trounce the Jazz
Coming off their first home loss of the season Friday against Portland, the Golden State Warriors showed up in a 134-117 home win over the Utah Jazz.
- Stephen Curry made six 3-pointers and scored 31 points, and Jimmy Butler had 18 points, seven assists, and six rebounds. Curry shot 12 for 24 on the way to his fifth 30-point game in the last six. Moses Moody had 15 points and six rebounds, while Gary Payton II contributed nine points, a career-best eight assists, and six rebounds. Golden State opened the night in an 11-0 hole before ripping off a 17-3 run and exploding for 41 points in the second quarter to take a commanding 67-55 lead into halftime.
- The Warriors have won 10 straight at home against the Jazz, whose last road victory at Golden State was 129-96 on Jan. 22, 2020.
- Draymond Green was sidelined by a sprained right foot that showed no significant injury on an MRI exam, the third game he has missed this month for illness and injury. Coach Steve Kerr hoped to have his defensive star back Wednesday night, while forward Jonathan Kuminga is still out because of his troublesome knees.
Rockets vs. Warriors Game Pick
Spread Pick and Prediction for Houston Rockets vs. Golden State Warriors
- Golden State Warriors ML (4 Units)
With Draymond Green (foot) sidelined, Jimmy Butler filled every gap on the floor, filling up a deep stat line last game in a win against the Utah Jazz. The 36-year-old veteran has been excellent for the Warriors this season, delivering 19.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.7 steals through 17 games. Golden State beat Houston in the playoffs last year, and as a result, Houston brought Kevin Durant into the mix. He will not play in this game, and for that reason, it is hard to trust them against the Warriors. Even with Draymond out, I like the Warriors to beat Houston without KD.
OVER/UNDER PICK for Rockets vs. Warriors
- OVER (4 units)
Golden State is near the upper half in pace of play leading into this game against Houston. Kevin Durant will not play in this game, and it remains to be seen what type of lineup Houston trots out. They may go small ball and put Ben Shepherd in the game instead of starting Steven Adams, and although they are near the bottom in pace, they may crank up the tempo here without Durant in the lineup. Golden State has been careless with the basketball to open the year, 25th in turnover percentage, so easy buckets should be available for a pesky Rockets team. Take the over.
