Rockets riding a four-game win streak
The Houston Rockets are 4-2 after winning their last four games, putting them only one game behind the Spurs for the lead in the Southwest. They'll be looking to continue that streak on Wednesday, against a Grizzlies team they've won six of eight meetings with over the past two seasons.
The Rockets didn't beat the Mavericks by nearly as much as expected, but still took care of business in their 110-102 win on Monday. The team shot 46.1% from the field, 27.1% from behind the arc, and outperformed the Mavs 54-40 on rebounds. Alperen Sengun finished with 26 points, six assists, and 11 rebounds; if Amen Thompson hadn't finished with 27 points, Sengun would've led the Rockets in all three categories. Kevin Durant wasn't far behind, finishing with 21 points, five assists, and six rebounds on the day. Durant leads the team with 25.2 points per game through six games, but Sengun is second in both points (21.7) and rebounds (8.5) while leading the team in assists per game (7.3).

Steven Adams, who leads the team with 9.3 rebounds per game, is day-to-day with a hip injury and questionable for Wednesday's game against the Grizzlies. Jabari Smith Jr. is in the same camp after missing Monday's game with an ankle injury. The team is also missing Dorian Finney-Smith and Fred VanVleet, both of whom are recovering from offseason surgery.
Can Grizzlies end three-game slide?
The Memphis Grizzlies are 3-5 after falling 114-106 to the Detroit Pistons on Monday. They're still third in the division behind the 5-1 Spurs and 4-2 Rockets, but they're the only team in the Western Conference currently riding a streak of three or more straight losses.
Defensively, it isn't a shock that the Grizzlies lost on Monday. The Pistons shot 50.6% from the field, turned the ball over six fewer times than the Grizzlies, and gave up 33 points to Cade Cunningham. Jaren Jackson Jr. led the Grizzlies in scoring with 21 points, adding only one assist and four rebounds otherwise. Ja Morant came in second, averaging 28 pointsโhe hit ten assists and five rebounds, but shot only 5-16 (31.3%) from the field and missed each of four shots from behind the arc. Morant leads the team with 20.4 points and 7.1 assists per game this season, but the Grizzlies are only 21st among NBA teams in points per game (115.5) during this early stretch.
The Grizzlies' injury situation could be worse, but it's still far less than ideal at this point in the season. Zach Edey, the team's ninth overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, is already ruled out for the game after being recalled from the G League. Scotty Pippen Jr., Ty Jerome, and Brandon Clarke are also out indefinitely after going through surgery.
Rockets vs. Grizzlies Pick
Spread Pick for Rockets vs. Grizzlies
- Rockets -7.5 (-110) (4 Units)
The Rockets are 6-2 in their last eight meetings with the Grizzlies, covering the 2023-24 and 2024-25 regular seasons, and they've covered in six of those games as well. The gap between these teams might be wider now than it was thenโthe Grizzlies, for their part, have only covered once in their last seven games this season. Houston is getting strong early returns from their acquisition of Durant; Memphis is still getting something out of Morant and Jackson Jr., but the operation doesn't look nearly as clean.
Over/Under Pick for Rockets vs. Grizzlies
- Over 232.5 (-110) (4 Units)
The Team Total Over has hit more often when these teams have playedโit's 7-2-1 in their last ten meetings, hitting in each of the five games they've played since the start of 2024. It's also hit in three of the Rockets' four games on their current streak, during which the Rockets had to beat the Brooklyn Nets 137-109 and the Raptors 139-121. Memphis ranks closer to the top of the league with 103. 1 possessions per gameโthey can make Houston score like that again, especially if they don't have a healthy interior defense against Durant and company.
