The Houston Rockets (7-2, 1st Southwest) are on the road Saturday to face the Phoenix Suns (2-5, 3rd in the Pacific) at Mortgage Matchup Center. Houston was beaten by Minnesota on Wednesday, 117-107, while Phoenix defeated Orlando 117-104 to snap a four-game skid. Houston is a solid 3-1 on the road, and Phoenix is a mediocre 2-2 at home. The game will start at 9:00 pm ET and is televised on Suns Live. Cash in a winning ticket with our free NBA picks.

Houston Rockets Looking to Regroup

Houston's last game did not have the ending the Rockets wanted. Houston had won twice before Minnesota beat them 117-107 Wednesday, with the T-Wolves holding an offense averaging 117.9 points to 107. Houston has still won three of five and sits 7-2. The Rockets allow only 107.6 points per game. That's a solid foundation for facing a Phoenix defense that has struggled to keep scores down.

Alperen Sengun handles much of Houston's work. He leads the team in scoring at 22.4 points, rebounding at 9.1 and passing at 8.1 assists per game. A center running the offense changes how defenders must play. Kevin Durant is the second-leading scorer at 20.8 points and is capable of taking over when the game is on the line. Houston has two ways to attack, inside with Sengun creating and on the perimeter with Durant executing.

Injuries: Steven Adams is out with a calf injury. Clint Capela is a game-time decision with an ankle injury.

Phoenix Suns Trying to Build Some Momentum

The Suns finally gave their home crowd something to cheer about Thursday, beating Orlando 117-104. Four consecutive defeats had left Phoenix searching for a spark, and holding the Magic to 104 points was a welcome change. The Suns are now 2-5, with just one victory in their last five games. Defense has been their biggest headache. Phoenix surrenders 121.4 points per contest while putting up 113.3 at the other end, but Thursday was better. Now the challenge is keeping that improvement going against Houston.

Devin Booker leads Phoenix in both scoring and assists, averaging 24.7 points and 4.7 assists per game. Much of the Suns' offense runs through his hands, whether he's looking for his own shot or setting up a teammate. Miles Bridges provides the second scoring option with 17.3 points and leads the team on the glass at 7.0 rebounds. Booker and Bridges have produced, but Phoenix hasn't turned their contributions into enough victories. The Suns need the rest of the lineup to help make those numbers count.

Injuries: Mark Williams is out with a shoulder injury. Jordan Goodwin and Rasheer Fleming are game-time decisions.

Key To The Game

Phoenix has to survive Houston's attack on the glass. The Rockets average 43.7 rebounds to the Suns' 39.5, and Sengun's passing makes the matchup trickier. Booker can keep Phoenix within range, but the Suns cannot continue allowing 121.4 points per game against an offense shooting 49.0%. The Suns cannot give up too many second looks to the Rockets.

Houston Rockets vs Phoenix Suns Game Pick

  • Houston Rockets

Phoenix has Booker and is fresh off a win, but Houston has more answers at both ends. The Rockets allow only 107.6 points per game; the Suns give up 121.4. That's a substantial gap. Sengun averages 22.4 points and 8.1 assists, and Durant can score without needing the ball on every trip. Houston's outside shooting adds another headache for Phoenix. Houston also holds a 43.7-to-39.5 rebounding advantage. Booker should create chances, but the Rockets have the size and scoring depth to finish stronger. I'm taking Houston.

Houston Rockets vs Phoenix Suns Over/Under Pick

  • Over

Phoenix's defense has been giving away too much. The Suns concede 121.4 points per night, and Houston arrives averaging 117.9 while shooting 49.0%. That's trouble, especially with Sengun finding cutters and Durant able to score from almost anywhere. The Rockets make 13.0 threes per game. Phoenix can contribute, too: Booker averages 24.7 points, Bridges adds 17.3, and the Suns scored 117 against Orlando on Thursday. Houston's defense allows just 107.6, which could slow Phoenix, but the hosts have enough scorers to contribute their share. I expect Houston to do most of the scoring, but I expect plenty of points. Play the over.
