The Minnesota Timberwolves will host the Indiana Pacers in their home opener. Tipoff is slated for 7:00 PM Eastern. Read on for the Pacers vs the Timberwolves prediction and more free NBA picks.

This article was written before Saturday's action.

Pacers Seek First Win

Indiana was unable to match the offensive firepower of OKC as they fell in a 141-135 final in a game that saw double overtime on Thursday. The Pacers kept the game competitive from the tip-off to the final whistle, but had just two starters in double figures. Bennedict Mathurin (37) and Pascal Siakam (32) accounted for over half of the team's points. Indiana held OKC to under 30% from long range and outscored the Thunder in the paint. They finished -5 in the rebound category.

Key Stats:

  • Bennedict Mathurin: 36 points per game
  • Pascal Siakam: 15 rebounds per game
  • Free Throw Percentage: 75%

With star point guard Tyrese Haliburton out for the season with a torn Achilles tendon suffered in last year's playoffs, the Pacers are leaning on Andrew Nembhard and TJ McConnell to take his place at the point. However, Nembhard is dealing with a shoulder injury and McConnell is out with a hamstring injury for a month. So Ben Sheppard will have to step up in that position.

T-Wolves Set For Home Opener

After jumping out to a hot start in game two of the season, Minnesota saw its offense score just 20 fourth-quarter points and ultimately lost 128-110 to the Lakers. The Timberwolves fell behind at the start of the second half and never were able to make it much of a contest from then on out. Four starters finished with double figures as Anthony Edwards finished with 31 points and Julius Randle added 26 points and nine boards. Minnesota allowed Los Angeles to shoot nearly 60% from the floor, and while they won the rebound battle, they were outscored in the paint and in transition.

Minnesota enters this contest averaging 114 points per game, which lands them at 24th in the league. The Timberwolves are pretty middle of the pack when it comes to overall shooting percentage, but they sit bottom 10 in both fast break points and paint points scored per game.

Key Stats:

  • Anthony Edwards: 36 points per game
  • Julius Randle: 8.0 rebounds per game
  • Free Throw Percentage: 75.6%

On the defensive end of the court, Minnesota is allowing 121 points per game, which lands them at 19th in the NBA. The Timberwolves have defended the open court well and are right outside the top 10 in opponent paint points scored per game.

There are no key injuries for the Timberwolves at this time.

Pacers vs Timberwolves Pick

Pick for Pacers vs Timberwolves

  • Indiana +1.5

Minnesota has been rather inconsistent and has been weak both from long range and inside the painted area. The T-Wolves appear to be a team out of sync. They also need a point guard as Donte DiVincenzo is trying to replace Mike Conley. Siakam and Mathurin are good enough players to help Sheppard create for others. Siakam can also give Randle fits with his length on the defensive end. While Aaron Nesmith is strong enough to give Anthony Edwards fits.

Indiana +1.5

Total for Pacers vs Timberwolves

  • Under 235.5

This game is a clash in styles as the Pacers sit top 10 in terms of pace of play, and the Timberwolves are sitting bottom 10. However, with the issues at point guard for both teams, turnovers can become an issue. Indiana also played .on Saturday, so they probably want to slow it down. Along with that, the Timberwolves will look to control the pace of play at home. Minnesota hasn't been particularly effective on the offensive end, and if the Pacers are able to defend without fouling, they really do have a sharp defense. The play is the under.
