Indiana vs Atlanta Game Preview and Analysis

This game comes at a strange point for both teams. Indiana is in the middle of a long road trip and just pulled off one of the biggest surprises of the week with a win in Oklahoma City as a massive underdog. That result followed a brutal 43-point loss to Detroit, showing how volatile the Pacers have been lately.

Atlanta, on the other hand, appears to be stabilizing after a rough stretch. The Hawks have won back to back games over Memphis and Phoenix, and their defense has quietly improved. Over the last 15 games, Atlanta sits inside the top-10 in defensive rating, a big shift from earlier in the season.

The early start time also matters. This is Indiana’s fifth game of the trip, and asking them to bring strong offensive energy again after an emotional win is a tall order. Even with a potential return from Bennedict Mathurin, Indiana’s offense has been the worst in the league by several advanced shooting metrics.

Atlanta is missing some key pieces, but their recent defensive effort combined with Indiana’s scoring issues points strongly toward a slower, more controlled game than the number suggests.

Key Injuries and Notes (IND vs ATL)

  • Atlanta: Zaccharie Risacher remains out while on a G League rehab assignment.
  • Atlanta: Kristaps Porzingis has not played since January 7 and remains out.
  • Indiana: Bennedict Mathurin is questionable after missing time with a thumb injury.
  • Indiana: Quenton Jackson is also listed as questionable.
