Knicks put up 140 points without Brunson and Anunoby
OG Anunoby played in just five minutes in the Knicks' 140-132 win over Miami on Friday. Unfortunately for the Knicks, Anunoby strained his hamstring, and the outstanding defensive forward is out for several weeks. New York received a huge lift from guard Landry Shamet, who had a career-high 36 points off the bench, while Karl-Anthony Towns produced 39 points. Shamet shot 12 of 19 from the field and 6 of 12 from beyond the arc.
With Brunson (ankle) out for the next week or so, Shame Miles McBride and veteran Jordan Clarkson will need to step up. Brunson (28ppg) was shooting 47% from the field and dishing out 6.5 assists per game. Towns will also need to be more of an offensive weapon (21.8ppg, 12.5rpg). The Knicks are still pretty methodical under Mike Brown, but they are an outstanding offensive team, ranking third in Adjusted Offensive Rating and 15th in Adjusted Defense according to DunksandThrees.com.
Miami needs a Herro
Tyler Herro is one of those rare guards (like Brunson, though not as durable), who is a walking bucket, but can also create for others. Unfortunately for the Heat, he has yet to play this season after averaging 23.9 points and 5.5 assists last season in 77 games. With Herro out and Terry Rozier (gambling) out for the distant future, Miami has been forced to be creative at point guard with Davion Mitchell starting against the Knicks in the last game out (11pts, 11 assists). Norman Powell (38pts) has proven to be a strong pickup in the offseason.
Powell has kept the Heat competitive with 26.1 points per game on 47.9% three-point shooting. Center Bam Adebayo adds 19.9 points and 8.1 rebounds, but he's been dealing with a foot injury and is questionable for this game on Monday. He missed the game on Friday and was replaced by Kel'el Ware, who had 15 points and 10 rebounds. Miami ranks 16th in Adjusted Offensive Rating and 9th in Adjusted Defense.
