Reaves Puts Away Timberwolves at the Buzzer
In a thrilling late-night Wednesday night game, the Lakers earned a 116-115 road win over the Minnesota Timberwolves after Austin Reaves nailed a shot at the buzzer.
- Reaves had 28 points and matched his career high with 16 assists, Jake LaRavia had 27 points on 10-for-11 shooting, and DeAndre Ayton added 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Lakers, who built a 20-point lead late in the third quarter and were up 112-101 after a 3-pointer by Reaves with four minutes left.
- Minnesota then went on a 14-2 run before Reaves hit a 12-footer to end the game.
- The star power of this game was diminished with Luka Doncic and LeBron James sidelined for the Lakers and Anthony Edwards out for the Wolves.
- Reaves had a career-high 51 points in a win over Sacramento on Sunday and 41 points in a defeat by Portland on Monday. Doncic, James, Marcus Smart, and Gabe Vincent were all injured. Backup center Jaxon Hayes returned from a knee injury that kept him out of the last two games. James has yet to appear in a game this season. While there is no specific timeline for a return, coach JJ Redick noted that the team is eyeing the second or third week of November.

Grizzlies Clip the Suns
Memphis earned a similar victory as the Lakers on Wednesday night after Ja Morant hit a shot with just under eight seconds remaining to lift the Grizzlies to a 114-113 road win over the Phoenix Suns.
- Ja Morant scored 28 points and Jaren Jackson Jr. had 18. Although Jackson is providing steady production so far, he's yet to surpass 19 points this season, which is a significant regression from his usual career numbers.
- Jackson's recent toe injury shortened his window of preparation in the preseason, so it may only be a matter of logging more time on the court to get him back on track. Santi Aldama had 14 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists off the bench.
- Morant scored 18 points in the second half and shot 10 of 19 from the field. He added eight rebounds and seven assists. He more than doubled his previous season high in rebounds, which previously stood at three. He has also recorded at least six assists in four straight contests. Through five games in 2025-26, Morant is averaging 23.4 points, 6.6 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.0 steals. After five games, Memphis is 3-2.
Lakers vs. Grizzlies Game Pick
Money Line pick for Lakers vs. Grizzlies
- Memphis Grizzlies ML (5 Units)
Memphis is off to a positive start to the season, earning a 3-2 mark after five games. They get an injury-depleted Lakers team at home. LeBron James will not play until the second or third week of November, and Luka Doncic is expected to be evaluated after a “couple of games.” That means he will be out for this game on Friday, and I like Jaren Jackson Jr and Ja Morant to take over this game and come out with another home win. Stemming from the preseason, Memphis has covered the spread in six of its last seven home games. Take the Grizz.
OVER/UNDER PICK for Lakers vs. Grizzlies
- OVER (4 Units)
Although the sample size is small after five games, Memphis has cranked up the tempo again this season, and they come into this game with LA third in pace of play. It’s not surprising, as they led the NBA in pace last year. Expect a lot of running from Morant and a newly revamped backcourt sans Desmond Bane. Jaylen Wells and Santi Aldama are off to good starts, and I expect a lot of work from them here. The total has gone over in four of Memphis’ last five home games against the Lakers. Take the over.
