Grizzlies a Little Better on Defense
It is an understatement that the Grizzlies played better defense in their last game in a 128-103 home win over the Indiana Pacers on Saturday, after giving up 146 points in losing their previous game. In their last game, the Grizzlies shot 45.4% from the floor and 38.5% from 3-point land while holding Indiana to 40.4% shooting and 35% from deep. Cedric Coward led the way with 27 points off the bench, hitting six of his 3-pointers. Ja Morant had 19 points, and Jaren Jackson Jr. had 17 points. Memphis covered as a 2-point favorite, and they are 2-1 ATS on the young season.
Morant (22 ppg) leads four players who are averaging in double figures, but has only totaled 31 points in the last two games, where he shot 35.7% and 25% respectively. Coward (19 ppg) is a rookie who totaled 30 points in his first two games after blowing up for 27 points in the last one. Jackson Jr. (18 ppg) has shot at least 50% from the floor in all three games but has had turnover and foul issues. This will be Memphis’ first road game of the season, and last season the team was 22-19 on the road.
C Zach Edey is out for a month and F Brandon Clarke (knee) will miss the first month or so of the season.

Warriors Lose First of the Season
In their last game, the Warriors were on the road in a 139-119 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers for their first loss of the season. They committed 25 turnovers and only shot 43.8% from the floor and 42.1% from behind the 3-point line, and allowed the Blazers to shoot 53.8% and 47.1% from long range. Steph Curry led the way in the loss with 35 points, and Jonathan Kuminga had 16 points and eight rebounds. Golden State failed to cover the spread as a 2.5-point favorite after covering in its first two games.
Curry (33.3 ppg) is in the top 10 in the league in scoring and has totaled 77 points in the last two games, shooting 50% from 3-pt land in each one. Jimmy Butler (22 ppg) had totaled 52 points in the first two games before only scoring 14 in the last one. Kuminga (15.7 ppg 7.3 rpg) is the leading rebounder and has shot over 54% from the field in all three games. The loss to the Blazers was the first road game for the Warriors, and they are back at home, where they won their only game in a 137-131 overtime win over the Denver Nuggets.
Center Al Horford (toe) is out for this game.
Grizzlies vs. Warriors Pick
Spread Pick for Grizzlies vs. Warriors
- Warriors -9 (4 units)
The Warriors lost their first game of the season in their last game, where they gave up 139 points. They have had issues on defense early this season but they are averaging 125 ppg led by an on-fire Steph Curry. The Grizzlies are coming off a win where they had their best defensive game of the season. In the game before the last one, they gave up a whopping 146 points and, in their opener, gave up 122 points to a winless Pelicans team. When it comes to the Memphis Grizzlies vs. Golden State Warriors prediction, back at home, Steph and the Warriors will run and gun and shoot the rock well and get the win and cover.
Over/Under Pick for Grizzlies vs. Warriors
- Over (4 units)
These teams have combined to play six games and in five of them the Over was the pick, and that is the one I’m leaning towards in this game. The Warriors are averaging 125 ppg but have struggled on the defensive side of the floor and gave up 139 points in their last game. The Grizzlies have scored 128 points in their two wins in their three games, and in their one loss, they gave up 146 points. Both of these teams can score, big time, but both also have major issues on defense early in the season. This game will be a fast-paced, high-scoring affair, so the Over is the pick.
