Memphis playing a young core

The Memphis Grizzlies have missed the playoffs in six of the previous ten seasons and have just one playoff series victory over the last decade. The bottom fell out for the Grizzlies (4-0) and they traded former number two overall draft pick Ja Morant to Portland for Jerami Grant and Kris Murray. On Monday, Memphis led by as many as 16 points and held on for a 110-105 road victory against Utah.

Cedric Coward led a balanced Memphis scoring attack with 16 points (4-4 3PT) and 11 rebounds. Ty Jerome chipped in 15 points on an inefficient 4-for-15 shooting and dished out eight assists. Rookie F Cameron Boozer added 13 points (1-6 3PT) and seven boards for the Grizzlies.

Last season, Memphis surrendered 120.7 points per game and has been much better to start the 2026-2027 campaign. When C Zach Edey was on the floor the Grizzlies had a defensive rating of less than 100 points per 100 possessions. During Tuesday’s victory Memphis held Utah to 43 percent from the field.

Portland continues to surprise

The Portland Trail Blazers were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs and have not won a playoff series since 2019. The Trail Blazers (2-0) need stability and it remains to be seen how well dynamic G Ja Morant can pair with veteran G Damian Lillard. On Tuesday, Portland knocked Los Angeles from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 136-129 road victory.

Ja Morant and Deni Avdija led six Portland players in double figures with 23 points apiece on a combined 17-for-28 shooting performance. Jrue Holiday contributed 22 points (8-12 FG) and four boards in 30 minutes off the bench. Damian Lillard added 21 points (4-8 3PT) and five rebounds for the Trail Blazers.

Micah Nori is in his first year as Portland’s head coach and he was only signed to a one-year deal. Nori has the Trail Blazers ranked third in defensive efficiency (98.9) and giving up 110.7 points per game. During Tuesday’s victory, the Trail Blazers nailed half of their 36 three-point attempts and shot a scorching 59 percent overall.

Memphis Grizzlies vs Portland Trail Blazers Picks and Prediction

Pick: Memphis Grizzlies +7.5

Portland G Shaedon Sharpe suffered a torn meniscus in his knee and is expected to be sidelined for six months. The Trail Blazers have won three straight against the Grizzlies by an average of 12 points. Memphis is 4-0 ATS and is covering the spread by an average of nine points. Portland will be flat after defeating the Lakers. Take the points.

Pick: Under 233.5

Portland is playing at the slowest tempo in the league and Memphis ranks 18th in that category. The Grizzlies ranked 25th in defensive efficiency a season ago, but are currently eighth in the league. As a result Memphis is 1-3 O/U and their games are staying under by an average of 13.8 points. Take the under.

Final Score Prediction: Portland Trail Blazers win 114-113
