Memphis Grizzlies Have More Than One Scoring Option
Memphis opened the season with a 123-103 win over Utah, then had to work much harder against Golden State. Friday's 111-108 victory wasn't especially tidy. The Grizzlies turned the ball over 25 times, nearly twice their 13 from opening night, but still found enough points to finish the job. Through two games, Memphis has averaged 117 points while allowing 105.5. The Grizzlies have also collected 51 rebounds and 25 assists per game. Their 84 made field goals in 179 attempts work out to 46.9% shooting.
Ty Jerome started with 45 points against Utah, then added 28 against the Warriors. That gives him 36.5 points and 5.5 assists per game. Cameron Boozer had a tougher shooting night in the opener but responded with 25 points and 13 rebounds Friday. His two-game averages are 16 points, 12 rebounds and 5.5 assists. Zach Edey has pulled down 19 rebounds through two games, including 10 against Golden State on Friday. He's also blocked four shots, two in each contest. Memphis has recorded seven blocks in both games, with Edey and GG Jackson contributing four apiece so far.
Injuries: Cedric Coward is out with a wrist injury.
Sacramento Kings Are Still Trying to Settle In
Sacramento gave up 121 points to the Clippers in its season opener and didn't fare any better defensively against Portland on Friday. The Trail Blazers scored 128, handing the Kings their second defeat in as many games. At least Sacramento got more going on offense this time. After scoring 96 against the Clippers, the Kings put up 120 against Portland. They made 42 field goals Friday compared with 36 in the opener. Through two games, Sacramento is scoring 108 points and allowing 124.5 per night. The Kings have also averaged 42 rebounds while shooting 44.3% from the field.
Domantas Sabonis has put together two impressive performances despite Sacramento's losses. He grabbed 18 rebounds against the Clippers, then pulled down 19 more against Portland on Friday. Sabonis also had 27 points and 10 assists in that second game after finishing with 14 points and eight assists in the opener. His early averages stand at 20.5 points, 18.5 rebounds and nine assists. Zach LaVine has scored 25 points per game, while Darius Acuff Jr. followed a 12-point debut with 33 against Portland. Sacramento has averaged 21.5 assists and only one block through two contests.
Injuries: Ben Simmons is out for the season. Dylan Cardwell and Maxime Raynaud are sidelined.
Key To The Game
Memphis has averaged 51 rebounds and seven blocks, compared with Sacramento's 42 rebounds and one block. Sabonis has been outstanding inside, but the Kings need more help defensively. Jerome's scoring puts added pressure on Sacramento's guards.
Memphis Grizzlies vs Sacramento Kings Game Pick
- Memphis Grizzlies
Memphis has taken care of business twice, beating Utah comfortably and then holding off Golden State. Jerome is averaging 36.5 points, and Boozer gives the Grizzlies another scorer who can rebound. Sacramento has allowed 121 and 128 points in its first two games, a worrying start against a Memphis team averaging 117. Sabonis has been excellent, but the Kings need more stops. Memphis makes it three wins in a row.
Memphis Grizzlies vs Sacramento Kings Over/Under Pick
- Over
Sacramento has given up 124.5 points per game, and Portland put 128 on the board Friday. Memphis comes in averaging 117, led by Jerome's strong opening performances. The Kings have also improved from 96 points against the Clippers to 120 against Portland, with Acuff and Sabonis producing. Neither defense has been perfect, and Sacramento's recent scoring gives this matchup room for points. The over is the play on Sunday night.
