Memphis Grizzlies Have Been Winning Close Games

Memphis opened its season with a comfortable 123-103 victory over Utah, but Friday's trip to Golden State was much tighter. The Grizzlies held off the Warriors 111-108 despite committing 25 turnovers. Memphis had turned the ball over just 13 times against the Jazz, so ball security was a bigger problem in that second game. The Grizzlies are averaging 117 points and allowing 105.5 through two contests. They've also collected 51 rebounds and 25 assists per game while shooting 46.9% from the field. Memphis heads to Sacramento on Sunday before traveling to Utah.

Ty Jerome has been outstanding through two games, scoring 45 points against Utah and 28 against Golden State. He's averaging 36.5 points and 5.5 assists while shooting 59.6%. Cameron Boozer has contributed 16 points, 12 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game. Jaylen Wells is scoring 14.5 points and collecting two steals, while Jerami Grant has added 10.5 points. Zach Edey has averaged 9.5 rebounds and two blocks, although an ankle injury will keep him out Monday. Memphis will miss his presence around the basket against Utah.

Injuries: Zach Edey is out. Cedric Coward is questionable.

Utah Jazz Have a Chance to Get Even

Utah's season began with that 123-103 defeat in Memphis. The Jazz returned home Friday and picked up their first victory, beating New Orleans 120-119 in a game decided by a single point. Through two games, Utah is scoring 111.5 points per contest while allowing 121. The Jazz are shooting 47.8% from the field, although they've collected only 40 rebounds per outing. Utah has also averaged 28 assists and 8.5 blocks. Sunday's home meeting with the Lakers means the Jazz won't have a day off before facing Memphis again Monday.

Keyonte George leads Utah with 20.5 points and 7.5 assists per game. Jaren Jackson Jr. has contributed 19.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks, giving the Jazz another option near the basket. Lauri Markkanen is averaging 17 points and 7.5 rebounds, while Darryn Peterson has added 12 points. Jaxson Hayes has been particularly active defensively, recording 3.5 blocks per contest along with 11 points. Utah has several players scoring regularly, but the Jazz need better work on the boards after Memphis grabbed 51 rebounds per game in its first two outings.

Injuries: Trey Alexander and Jusuf Nurkic are out.

Key To The Game

Memphis dominated the first meeting by 20 points, but both teams now face a quick turnaround. Utah needs Jackson and Hayes to protect the basket without Edey playing. Jerome's scoring remains the biggest concern for the Jazz.

Memphis Grizzlies vs Utah Jazz Game Pick

  • Memphis Grizzlies

Memphis already beat Utah by 20 points, and Jerome was a major reason with 45 in that opener. The Grizzlies have also won on the road at Golden State, showing they can handle a close finish. Utah responded well against New Orleans, but its rebounding numbers remain a concern. Both clubs play Sunday, and Memphis has the stronger early results. The Grizzlies complete the season sweep of October's two meetings.

Memphis Grizzlies vs Utah Jazz Over/Under Pick

  • Over

Utah has allowed 123 and 119 points in its first two games, while Memphis has scored 123 and 111. Jerome is averaging 36.5 points, and George gives the Jazz a reliable scoring option of their own. Edey's absence changes Memphis's interior defense, particularly against Jackson and Hayes. Both teams are playing for the second straight night, and another offensive game sends the combined score higher. The over is the pick.
