Key Matchups for Pelicans vs. Suns

Murphy III steps up in Zion's absence

New Orleans fell to the Spurs on Sunday, 126-119. Trey Murphy III led the way with 41 points, tying a career-high, on 15-of-22 shooting. The Pels shot 48% from the field and 39% from long range, but allowed the Spurs to shoot 53.3% from the field. De'Aaron Fox scored 24 points in his season debut for San Antonio to lead them, while Victor Wembanyama added 18 points and 18 rebounds.

With Williamson (22.8ppg) and Poole (17.3ppg) out, Murphy III has stepped up with 17.8 points per game and 6.7 rebounds. Rookie point guard Jeremiah Fears adds 13.8 points per game on 44.2% shooting. He has scored in double figures in six straight games.

Booker leading the Suns to wins

Expectations were not high for a Phoenix team that lost Kevin Durant to Houston. In their last game, the Suns beat the Clippers on the road 114-103 on Saturday, after defeating them on Thursday 115-102 at home. One player who stayed was Devin Booker, who had 21 points and 10 rebounds in the Clippers game on Saturday.

Key Injuries and Analysis for Pelicans vs. Suns

New Orleans

  • Zion Williamson could return this week with a hamstring strain. He's the leading scorer (22.8ppg), leading rebounder (6.8rpg) and leads in assists.
  • Guard Jordan Poole (knee) is out for at least a week and will be re-evaluated after that. Poole is third on the team in scoring and shoots 33.9% from beyond the arc.

Phoenix

  • G Jalen Green (hamstring) has played in just two games this season. He's averaging 15.5 points and shooting 42.9% from the three-point line. He attempted to play against the Clippers on Saturday, but played in just seven minutes before leaving the game.

New Orleans Pelicans vs. Phoenix Suns ATS and Over/Under Betting Picks

The Pelicans are shooting just 43.5% from the field to rank 28th in the NBA. Without Poole and especially Williamson, the Pels have to rely on Murphy, who will be a marked man after his 41-point performance. Phoenix's defense has improved with the loss of Durant and Brad Beal and with Mark Williams defending the paint and Dillon Brooks defending everyone in sight. They are not elite defensively, but they allow 35.5% three-point shooting to rank 13th and 41.5% from the field to rank 12th. Phoenix is 20th in pace of play, while New Orleans is 25th according to DunksandThrees.com.

Phoenix has gone under in three straight and four of their last five games.

Take the Suns and the Under.

Pels vs. Suns Spread

  • Phoenix -6.5 (current line)

Total for Pelicans vs. Suns

  • Under 228.5

Pelicans vs. Suns Final Score Prediction

  • Phoenix 115-New Orleans 103

The Suns are rolling and finally healthy save for Jalen Green's injury. Booker is one of the more underrated players in the league and is unselfish when he needs to be. Grayson Allen and Brooks can be very agitating players, but are also efficient scorers. Allen is shooting 41% from three-point range so you can't leave him open when Booker has the ball. It's a tough matchup for the Pels, though most teams are with Williamson and Poole out with injuries.
