OKC Enters second of a Back-to-Back
The Oklahoma City Thunder are coming off of a dominant 2024-25 season where they went on to win the NBA title. They’ve picked up right where they left off, going a perfect 8-0 out of the gate. OKC will be entering on the second night of a back-to-back, and they went 11-5 SU and 8-8 ATS on zero rest last season. Their last five wins have come against the Mavericks (101-94), Kings (107-101), Wizards (127-108), Pelicans (137-106), and Clippers (126-107), most recently. Oklahoma City is the betting favorite (+235) to win the championship again this year. They’ve gone 4-4 ATS and 5-3 to the over.
Tuesday’s 126-107 victory over the Clippers saw the Thunder cover as 8.5-point favorites. Reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way with a double-double, scoring 30 points and dishing out 12 assists. As for the team-level metrics, OKC was better in field goal percentage (52.3% to 41.3%), three-point shooting (47.4% to 41.9%), and turnovers (11 to 19), while Los Angeles held the edge in rebounding (42 to 40).
- The Thunder are scoring 122.1 points per game, which is the sixth-most in the NBA.
- They own a field goal rate of 46.8% (16th), while cashing 31.5% of their triples (28th).
- Oklahoma City’s defense is first in efficiency, allowing only 103.1 points per 100 possessions.
- Lu Dort (shoulder) is ? Jalen Williams (wrist) is out.
Trail Blazers’ Three-Game Winning Streak Snapped
There has been a major early-season off-the-court distraction for the Portland Trail Blazers, with Coach Chauncey Billups going on leave after being indicted for mob-linked gambling charges in rigged poker games. This has paved the way for Coach Tiago Splitter to step in as interim coach. Overall, the Trail Blazers are 4-3 out of the gate, which puts them in seventh place in the Western Conference. They recently rattled off three straight wins over the Lakers (122-108), Jazz (136-134), and Nuggets (109-107), but had their winning streak snapped last time out by the Lakers (123-115). As for the season-long outlook, the Blazers are a +240 underdog to make the playoffs.

The Trail Blazers were a 10.5-point home favorite last time out against the Lakers, so they obviously didn’t cover in the 123-115 outright loss. Portland was better on the glass (38 rebounds to 34), but Los Angeles held edges in all other major categories, including field goal rate (58.8% to 49.4%), three-point shooting (39.1% to 22.5%), and turnovers (17 to 18). Individually, Deni Avdija led the way, scoring 33 points on a 10-20 (50%) shooting night.
- Portland is averaging 120.3 points per game, which is the ninth-most in the Association.
- The Blazers are currently ranked 21st in field goal rate (45.1%) and 25th in three-point shooting (32.3%).
- Defensively, they are fifth in efficiency, conceding 108.9 points per 100 possessions.
Thunder vs. Trail Blazers Pick
Spread Pick for Thunder vs. Trail Blazers
- Oklahoma City Thunder -5.5 (-110) (5 units)
We’re getting a discounted price on the Thunder here since they’re playing on a back-to-back, but I’m going to take this opportunity to back them. The Thunder are 8-0 SU, and they’ve won each of their last seven games by 6+ points.
Oklahoma City is dynamic offensively, averaging 122.1 points per game. And when you factor in that they’re first in defensive efficiency (103.1 points against per 100 possessions), you can start to see the path for a cover against this mediocre Portland squad. OKC has covered 11 of its last 16 games against Portland, and they’ve beaten them the last 10 times outright. Give me the Thunder to cover.
Over/Under Pick for Thunder vs. Trail Blazers
- Over 228.5 (-110) (5 units)
I’ll also be playing the over on Wednesday night. These are two top-10 offenses, each averaging over 120 points per game. Partially, that’s due to the quick pace at which they each play. Portland is fourth in pace, using 107.8 possessions per game. Oklahoma City is seventh (105.6).
The Thunder have seen at least 233 points in their last three games, while the Trail Blazers have cleared the 228.5-point threshold in three of their last four. The over is 5-2 in Portland’s last seven outings. Let’s take the over.
