The Orlando Magic travel to Charlotte to face the Hornets at Spectrum Center on Thursday at 7:00 PM ET, with coverage on FanDuel SN FL. Orlando is 1-3 after three straight losses, while Charlotte is 2-2. See the floor better with NBA picks for the Orlando Magic at the Charlotte Hornets.

Magic Look to Stop Slide

The Magic enter at 1-3 overall and 0-1 on the road, averaging 113.5 points per game while allowing 121.3 per game. The offense has shown balance through four games, shooting 46.9% from the field and ranking near the top of the league in rebounding at 46.8 per game. Paolo Banchero has led the Magic, scoring 32 points in the most recent loss to Philadelphia, while Desmond Bane added 24 and Franz Wagner posted 22. Orlando’s ball movement has not been the best, with just 20.8 assists per game, a number that limits options late in games when defenses tend to tighten up.

Defensively, Orlando has not been consistent. The Magic are giving up high shooting numbers and have dropped three straight after an opening win over Miami. The Magic have shown scoring punch, particularly in transition and through inside play, but have allowed opponents to score over 120 in each of the past three outings. If the Magic can sustain a rebounding edge while cutting down second-chance points, they will be competitive on the road at Charlotte.

In Monday’s 136-124 loss at Philadelphia, the Magic couldn’t slow down Tyrese Maxey, who scored 43 points. Orlando fell behind early but kept pace through the third quarter, trimming the lead to seven when rookie Anthony Black hit a three-quarter-court shot to close the period. Banchero’s 32 points on 11-for-20 shooting kept the Magic in close, but the defense gave up 72 points in the first half. The Magic have now lost three straight, all by double digits, to open their five-game road trip.

Injuries:

  • Moritz Wagner (F) OUT – Oct 30

Hornets Aim to Stay Perfect at Home

The Hornets are 2-2 overall and 1-0 at home, averaging 132.0 points per game while shooting 50.9%. Charlotte’s offense has been among the league’s best through four games, generating 31 assists per contest and ranking in the top five in scoring. The team’s rebounding has been strong at 49.0 per game, giving them the ability to run the court in transition off missed shots by their opponents. LaMelo Ball continues to push the tempo, averaging nearly a double-double and creating open looks for shooters like rookie Kon Knueppel, who scored 19 points in the recent loss.

Despite the strong offense, the Hornets’ defense remains a weakness. Charlotte has allowed 131.3 points per game through four contests, including 144 in Tuesday’s defeat at Miami. Charlotte’s defense has been inconsistent, and opponents have attacked the interior with success. Still, the Hornets are averaging 7.7 steals per game and rank among the better transition teams when forcing turnovers. At home, ball movement and strong shooting produce early leads, but sustaining defensive pressure across 48 minutes has been a challenge.

Charlotte fell 144-117 in Miami, struggling to contain Jaime Jaquez Jr., who scored 28 points on 9-for-14 shooting. The Hornets gave up 76 first-half points and couldn’t recover despite 20 points from Ball and 19 from Knueppel. The team’s 18 turnovers fueled Miami’s transition game, and the Charlotte bench was outscored 58-33. The Hornets now return home after a three-game road stretch, hoping to regain focus on defense to defend their home court.

Injuries:

  • Grant Williams (F) OUT – Oct 30
  • Josh Green (G) OUT – Oct 30
  • Brandon Miller (F) OUT – Oct 30

Orlando Magic at Charlotte Hornets Pick

Spread Pick for Magic vs. Hornets

  • Charlotte Hornets (4 Units)

Charlotte’s offensive tempo and home-court success give them a narrow advantage. The Hornets have scored 136 and 139 in their two wins and face a Magic team allowing 121 per game. Even with multiple injuries, Ball’s playmaking and the Hornets’ rebounding advantage will create enough scoring late to cover the spread at home. Expect Charlotte to control the pace and close strong at the Spectrum Center.

Over/Under Pick for Magic vs.  Hornets

  • Over 249.5 (4 Units)

Both teams are trending toward high totals, combining for 257 points in the most recent games. The Magic have hit 124 or more in three of four contests, while Charlotte averages 132 on 50.9% shooting. Defensive problems on both sides and a fast tempo should push this matchup comfortably over the number, particularly if Ball and Banchero score as they have so far to start the season.
