Orlando picked up its first win of the season Sunday, while Toronto had a rough night in Minnesota. The Magic visit the Raptors at Scotiabank Arena on Wednesday, with tipoff set for 7:30 pm ET on NBA League Pass. Orlando is 1-2, fourth in the Southeast Division, after beating New York 111-102. Toronto is 2-1 and second in the Atlantic Division following a 117-94 loss to Minnesota. Both teams have important players sidelined, making this an interesting early-season matchup. Orlando Magic Trying to Build on Sunday's Win
Orlando needed a better performance after losing its first two regular-season games. The Magic gave up 132 points against Atlanta in their opener, then scored only 93 in a loss to Minnesota. Sunday's trip to New York went much better. Orlando beat the Knicks 111-102, picking up its first victory despite playing without Paolo Banchero. The Magic are averaging 109 points and have struggled from outside, shooting just 26.6% on three-pointers. Finding consistent scoring remains their biggest concern.
Franz Wagner has become even more important with Banchero unavailable. He's averaging 21 points and 8.3 rebounds, while Wendell Carter Jr. is contributing 17 points and 8.7 boards. Desmond Bane gives Orlando another option, although his shooting hasn't been particularly good. Jalen Suggs is also questionable, which could leave the Magic short-handed in the backcourt.
Injuries: Paolo Banchero, Jonathan Isaac, Noah Penda and Izaiyah Nelson are out. Jalen Suggs is questionable.
Toronto Raptors Need a Better Offensive Night
Toronto looked comfortable in its first two games, beating Chicago 135-92 and Washington 112-102. The Raptors couldn't repeat that scoring against Minnesota on Sunday. They managed only 94 points in a 117-94 loss, their first defeat of the season. Toronto has still averaged 123.5 points through its early games, and rebounding has been a strength. The Raptors are collecting 52 boards per contest, giving themselves plenty of opportunities to create extra possessions.
RJ Barrett has been Toronto's leading scorer at 21 points per game. With Kawhi Leonard sidelined, Barrett will have to keep producing. Scottie Barnes is averaging 17 points and 7.7 rebounds, while Immanuel Quickley has contributed 18 points and five assists. The Raptors have several players capable of handling the offense, even without Leonard. Getting more from their outside shooting will also help after the difficult night in Minnesota.
Injuries: Kawhi Leonard and Nate Bittle are out.
Key To The Game
Orlando's biggest problem is replacing Banchero's scoring and playmaking. Wagner can take on more responsibility, but Toronto has more options with Barrett, Barnes and Quickley. The Raptors also hold an advantage on the glass, averaging 52 rebounds compared with Orlando's 41. If Toronto uses that edge to create second chances, the Magic will have a difficult time keeping pace.
Orlando Magic vs Toronto Raptors Game Pick
- Toronto Raptors
Orlando played well in New York, but winning another road game without Banchero presents a tougher challenge. The Magic could also be missing Suggs, leaving Wagner and Carter with more work. Toronto has its own injury concerns, but Barrett, Barnes and Quickley provide enough scoring to make up for Leonard's absence. The Raptors have also been much stronger on the boards, which gives them another way to control the game. Orlando's outside shooting has been unreliable, and Toronto has the better options offensively. The Raptors bounce back from Sunday's defeat with a home victory.
Orlando Magic vs Toronto Raptors Over/Under Pick
- Under
Neither team looked particularly sharp offensively in its latest loss. Orlando scored only 93 against Minnesota before improving to 111 in New York, while Toronto managed just 94 points against the Timberwolves on Sunday. Banchero's absence removes Orlando's leading scorer, and Leonard being out takes another important option away from Toronto. The Magic have also made only 26.6% of their three-point attempts. Toronto has enough offense to win, but Orlando's scoring problems point toward a lower total. The under is the pick Wednesday night.
