Big Comeback for Suns in Opener
In their first game of the season, the Suns were at home in a 120-116 win over the Sacramento Kings, where they came back from a 20-point deficit. The Suns had twice as many offensive rebounds (18-9), which was key as they shot a lower FG% (47.4% to 50%) and a lower 3-pt FG% (29.4% to 37.5%). Devin Booker led the way in the W with 31 points and newcomer Dillon Brooks chimed in for 22 points. The game was a pick with the Suns a 4-point favorite and the total went Over.

The Suns went through a major roster rehaul in the offseason, with Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal gone in what was a failed super team experiment. Jalen Green averaged 21 ppg for the Rockets last season, coming to Phoenix in the Durant trade, and he missed the first game and is listed as a game-time decision to face the Clippers. Booker is the leader of the team and will need help from Brooks and Grayson Allen, who combined for 40 points in the opener. The defense was the issue last season, and while they won their last game, they will likely not win many, allowing their opponents to shoot 50% from the floor like in the win over the Kings.
Bad Opener for the Clippers
The Clippers hit the road for their first game, where they did not play well on either side of the floor in a 129-108 loss to the Utah Jazz, who had the worst record in the NBA last season. In the loss, the Clip Joint shot 44.3% and 31.1% from 3-pt land while allowing the Jazz to shoot 55.2% and 38.6% from deep. Ivan Zubic led the way with 19 points and James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, and Bradley Beal only combined for 27 points. The Clip Joint came nowhere near covering as a 3-point favorite and the total went Over.
For the Clippers to make any noise in the West, they need Leonard, Harden, and Beal to make some noise. They did far from that in the opener, combining to shoot 10-26 from the floor. Newcomers Brook Lopez and John Collins did their part in the first game, combining for 29 points off the bench, but if the new Big 3 cannot get it done in the scoring department, L.A. will have issues. While early in the season, there are questions for the Clippers, and age is not on their side with Leonard at 34, Lopez atΒ 37, Chris Paul at 40, Nicolas Batum at 36, Beal at 32,Β and Harden at 36. Better defense is the key for the team in this game, facing a Suns team that does not have much pressure on them with low expectations.

Booker and the Suns were impressive in their debut, but the team may still be in for a long season. Booker does not have much help but there are some pieces to build around but Green, being a question mark, is a concern for this game. Regarding the Phoenix Suns vs. L.A.
