Suns Crushed on the Road
Phoenix played a road game against the Denver Nuggets Saturday night, and they were a no-show in a 133-111 loss. Devin Booker had 31 points and Grayson Allen scored 17 for the Suns, who were playing the second game of a tough back-to-back.
- They tipped Saturday night, 20 hours after losing by 27 to the Los Angeles Clippers, and did not have center Mark Williams, who was out with a right knee injury.
- Phoenix trailed by 20 early in the third quarter but went on a 13-2 run to cut the deficit to 83-74. The Nuggets scored the next 11 points and took a 100-83 lead into the fourth, and the game was out of hand thereafter.
- After only taking 10 shots in the Suns’ previous game, Booker was more aggressive on the offensive end in this one and was able to get back over the 30-point mark. He also increased his assist count over the last two games, though a new season-high for turnovers came with that. Defenses can key in on Booker, but he’s still able to hurt them as a scorer. He has still been able to make at least 50 percent of his shots in each of their first three games of the season.
- Dillon Brooks (groin) is questionable for this game.

Jazz Lose a Heartbreaker in Sacramento
Utah suffered a tough road loss as they allowed a field goal with under six seconds remaining in a 105-104 loss against the Sacramento Kings. Lauri Markkanen had 33 points to lead the Jazz. Keyonte George added 18 points and 10 assists. Brice Sensabaugh scored 15 off the bench.
- The teams combined for 27 3-pointers. Utah held a 50-33 rebounding advantage.
- Markkanen followed up a 20-point debut with a standout game, although he could only get four of his 13 three-point attempts to fall. Despite that shortfall, he made plays all over the court and was the clear offensive spark plug for the Jazz. His teammates fell well behind him in production, and Utah will need a more balanced attack to be successful with such a young starting group.
- It is also no surprise that the Jazz want to move Markkanen, and games like this make it easier to do so.
- Keyonte George also had a nice showing. The starting job should continue to be a battle with Isaiah Collier (hamstring), but George will have full ownership of the top spot while Collier recovers. The Baylor product started in 35 games last season, performing as a fill-in for injuries and matchup-dependent situations, so he's certainly put in the work to earn the role in his third season with the team.
Phoenix Suns vs. Utah Jazz Game Pick
Money Line pick for Suns vs. Jazz
- Utah Jazz ML (5 units)
Although the young Jazz are in another rebuild, they are playing good basketball to open the season. In their first game, they blew out the Clippers at home and lost a heartbreaker with under 10 seconds remaining against the Kings. Markkanen looks healthy after being held out of numerous games last season, and Keyonte George is carving a role as the everyday point guard. Phoenix was 27th in defensive rating last season and is likely to remain near the bottom again. I like the Jazz to win at home.
OVER/UNDER PICK for Suns vs. Jazz
- OVER (4 units)
The aforementioned young Jazz really cranked up the pace of play last season, and it would not be surprising if they deploy that same style this season. They finished sixth in pace last year, but that also came with a steady dose of turnovers. They finished dead last in turnover percentage last season, so there will be plenty of easy opportunities for both clubs in this game. Coupled with Phoenix’s shaky defense to start the year, this should be an easy over.
