Portland Finds Late Spark in Comeback Win
The 121-119 upset win over the Thunder was Portland's most impressive outing of the season and OKC's first loss of the season.. The Blazers erased a 22-point deficit behind Deni Avdija's 26 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. Jrue Holiday added 22 points and hit the go-ahead free throws in the final seconds. Jerami Grant scored 20 off the bench, while Duop Reath gave the team a lift from deep with nine second-quarter points on 3-pointers.
The Portland offense is firing on all cylinders, averaging 120.4 points per game on 44.6 percent shooting. The team moves the ball well with an average of 26.3 assists per night and is active defensively, forcing turnovers with 11.6 steals per game. The Blazers also limit mistakes and show better composure late in games, as evidenced by the comeback win over the Thunder. Rebounding remains one area Portland must improve, as the Trailblazers are averaging 42.1 boards per game while Miami grabs 43.6.
Injuries: Portland remains short-handed in the backcourt with Scoot Henderson (ankle) out until November 10; Matisse Thybulle (knee) and Blake Wesley (wrist) are out longer-term. Damian Lillard is likely to miss the entire season.

Heat Seek Home Bounce-Back After Road Trip
Several defensive problems were exposed in its 122-112 loss in Denver as Miami trailed throughout the fourth quarter. Norman Powell kept Miami close with 23 points, but the Heat couldn't slow Denver's frontcourt or match the Nuggets' inside play. On the other hand, the Heat offense this season has been good, averaging 122.4 ppg while shooting 49.5 percent from the field.
The Heat have been more effective at home, where they're 2-0, averaging nearly 130 points per game in those contests. Strong scoring and solid ball movement, at 29.5 assists per game, give them one of the league's most fluid offenses when healthy. Defensively, they've slipped recently, allowing 122.4 points per game, and will need to tighten up against Portland’s guard-heavy attack.
Powell still leads Miami in scoring, averaging 23.2 points per game, and shoots 94.9 percent at the line as well. With several key players out of the lineup, bench strength has been put to the test for the Heat. We shall see over the next few games if the offense can keep battling until the roster gets healthier.
Injuries: Bam Adebayo is out until November 8, Tyler Herro until November 17, and Terry Rozier until December 1. Missing Adebayo's interior defense and rebounding hurt them in Denver and could again against Portland's slashing forwards.
Portland Trail Blazers at Miami Heat Pick
Spread Pick for Trail Blazers vs. Heat
- Miami Heat -3 (4 Units)
Miami has performed well at home, and that gives the Heat an advantage even though they are shorthanded. The Heat's 2-0 home record and 49.5 percent shooting provide a steady base, and Powell has been consistent as the top scoring option. Portland is playing well, but is coming off an emotional win and traveling east on short rest. Miami's offense is averaging slightly more points per game and should find success attacking Portland's interior, where the Blazers allow second-chance looks. If Miami wins the assist battle and keeps performing well at home, the Heat should cover the 3-point spread.
Over/Under Pick for Trail Blazers vs. Heat
- Over 242.5 (5 Units)
With both teams having totals finishing over, this matchup has the pace and scoring talent to keep that going. The Portland Trail Blazers are averaging 120.4 points, while the Miami Heat are at 122.4 through their first five games. When combined, that is over 240 per game. Neither defense has been strong lately, as Miami allowed 122 in its last outing, while Portland gave up 119 to Oklahoma City. Avdija, Holiday, and Grant can all create mismatches, while Powell and Miami's wings will push tempo early. Expect both sides to stay aggressive and trade baskets deep into the fourth quarter.
