Kings Struggle Out The Gate

Sacramento comes into Chicago at 1-3, having dropped a tough 107-101 road loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Kings led for much of the night, shooting over 56 percent in the first half and carrying an 83-80 lead into the fourth quarter, but they couldn’t close it out as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder surged late. Zach LaVine paced Sacramento with 23 points, while DeMar DeRozan added 19 and Domantas Sabonis pulled down 18 rebounds to go with 10 points. Russell Westbrook, making his first start of the season, chipped in 16 points and nine boards, showing flashes of his trademark energy. Despite the loss, Sacramento showed it can hang with one of the league’s elite, though late-game execution remains a glaring issue.

Offensively, the Kings have leaned on their veteran trio of LaVine, DeRozan, and Sabonis to carry the scoring load. LaVine has been aggressive in attacking the rim and finding his shot from deep, while DeRozan continues to thrive in the mid-range, providing steady production. Sabonis has been a force on the glass, averaging double-digit rebounds, but his playmaking numbers are down compared to previous seasons, which has limited Sacramento’s offensive flow. The addition of Westbrook has given them another ball-handler, and his willingness to push tempo has created opportunities, though turnovers remain a concern. Sacramento has also gotten solid minutes from Keon Ellis and Malik Monk off the bench, but the Kings need more consistent scoring balance to avoid relying too heavily on their stars.

Defensively, Sacramento has been inconsistent, allowing over 117 points per game through four contests. Against Oklahoma City, they mixed in zone looks to slow down the Thunder, and it worked for stretches, but breakdowns in the final minutes proved costly. Ellis has been a bright spot on the perimeter, bringing energy and defensive intensity, while Sabonis continues to battle in the paint. Still, the Kings have struggled to finish possessions, giving up too many second-chance opportunities. Facing a Chicago team that has been efficient offensively and is riding momentum, Sacramento will need to tighten its rotations and avoid the lapses that have cost them in close games.

Bulls Look To Remain Perfect

Chicago enters this matchup at 3-0, fresh off a 128-123 home win over the Atlanta Hawks two nights ago. The Bulls rallied from an early 13-point deficit, using a 41-point third quarter to seize control before holding off Atlanta in a back-and-forth finish. Ayo Dosunmu led the way with 21 points, while Josh Giddey added 18 points and 13 rebounds, showcasing his versatility. Nikola Vucevic was a force inside, posting 17 points, 17 rebounds, and nine assists, nearly recording a triple-double. Eight Bulls finished in double figures, highlighting the depth and balance that has defined their strong start to the season.

Offensively, Chicago has been one of the league’s most efficient teams, averaging 117.7 points per game while shooting over 48 percent from the field. Vucevic has been the anchor, consistently producing double-doubles and facilitating from the post, while Giddey has provided secondary playmaking and rebounding. Rookie Matas Buzelis has impressed early, scoring 16 points against Atlanta and showing confidence as a perimeter threat. Kevin Huerter and Tre Jones have also contributed steady scoring and ball movement, giving the Bulls multiple options across the floor. With six players averaging double figures, Chicago has been difficult to defend, as opponents can’t key in on just one or two scorers.

Defensively, the Bulls have been equally impressive, holding opponents to just 109 points per game through three contests. Their perimeter defense has been sharp, limiting opponents to under 27 percent shooting from three, while their rebounding has been strong, averaging nearly 49 boards per game. Vucevic has been dominant on the glass, and Isaac Okoro has provided defensive versatility on the wing. Chicago’s ability to rotate fresh bodies and maintain intensity has worn down opponents, as seen in their comeback against Atlanta. Against Sacramento, the Bulls will look to use that depth and defensive pressure to disrupt the Kings’ rhythm, particularly in the fourth quarter where Sacramento has struggled to close games.

Sacramento Kings vs Chicago Bulls Pick

Kings vs Bulls Spread Pick

  • Chicago -5 (4 Units)

The Bulls -5 looks like a strong side given how balanced and efficient they’ve been to start the season. Chicago has shown the ability to spread scoring across multiple players, with Nikola Vucevic anchoring the interior, Josh Giddey facilitating from the perimeter, and Matas Buzelis providing a spark as a rookie. That depth has made them difficult to defend, as opponents can’t simply key in on one or two scorers. Against a Sacramento team that has struggled to close games and has leaned heavily on its veteran trio, Chicago’s ability to keep fresh legs on the floor and maintain offensive rhythm gives them a clear edge.

Defensively, the Bulls have also been sharper than Sacramento, holding opponents under 110 points per game while dominating the glass. Vucevic’s rebounding presence and Isaac Okoro’s perimeter defense have been key in limiting second-chance opportunities, something the Kings have relied on to stay competitive. With Sacramento showing late-game lapses and Chicago thriving in crunch-time situations, the Bulls’ structure and depth make them well-positioned to not only win but cover the -5 spread at home.

Kings vs Bulls Over/Under Pick

  • Over 238 (5 Units)

The over 238 looks like the right angle here given how both teams have been playing. Chicago has been efficient offensively, averaging nearly 118 points per game with balanced scoring across multiple contributors, while Sacramento has leaned on LaVine, DeRozan, and Sabonis to keep pace despite defensive lapses. The Kings have allowed over 117 points per contest, and their up-tempo style with Westbrook pushing the pace creates plenty of possessions. With both clubs capable of explosive quarters and neither defense showing the ability to consistently lock down late, this matchup has the makings of a high-scoring affair that clears the total.
