Sacramento Kings vs. Los Angeles Lakers Prediction and Picks - December 28, 2025

The Sacramento Kings (8-23) make the short trip to crypto.com Arena this Sunday to face the Los Angeles Lakers (19-10) in a Pacific Division matchup. Sacramento arrives with some rare momentum after a gritty 113-107 win over Dallas last night, but they face a daunting task playing on the second half of a back-to-back. The Lakers, meanwhile, are looking to snap a three-game losing streak that culminated in a disappointing Christmas Day loss to Houston. While Los Angeles sits firmly in the Western Conference playoff race, they are desperate to fix a defense that has leaked points throughout the month of December.

Sacramento Kings: Fighting Through a M.A.S.H. Unit

The Kings’ 2025 campaign has been defined by a brutal run of injuries to their core players. Sacramento will be without their top three stars tonight: Domantas Sabonis (calf), Keegan Murray (hamstring), and leading scorer Zach LaVine (adductor) are all ruled out. In their absence, the Kings have relied on a "scrappy" rotation featuring De'Aaron Fox and Malik Monk, who helped spark the upset over Dallas.

Statistically, the Kings have struggled on the road, posting a 3-13 record away from the Golden 1 Center. Their defense has been the primary culprit, surrendering 122.0 points per game, which ranks near the bottom of the league. For Sacramento to cover the massive 12.5-point spread, they will need to shoot the lights out from deep and hope the Lakers' recent offensive rhythm remains disrupted.

Los Angeles Lakers: Luka Doncic Looks to Get Back on Track

The Lakers' recent slide has coincided with a slight dip in defensive intensity, as they have allowed an average of 118 points over their last three losses. However, the offense remains elite when Luka Doncic is operating at full speed. Doncic leads the team with 33.7 points per game and will look to exploit a Kings defense that lacks the interior presence of Sabonis. The Lakers are also navigating injuries of their own, as they will be without Austin Reaves for the foreseeable future.

Los Angeles has been solid at home (7-5) and traditionally excels in the "bounce-back" role. Under head coach JJ Redick, the Lakers are 6-2 following a loss of 10 or more points. With LeBron James continuing to defy time and the Lakers' bench looking to find more consistency, this matchup serves as a prime "get-right" opportunity before the calendar turns to 2026.

Expert Picks and Predictions

Kings vs Lakers ATS Pick

  • Sacramento Kings +12.5

I am taking the points with the Kings in this spot. While the Lakers are the vastly superior team on paper—especially with Sacramento missing Sabonis and LaVine—12.5 points is a massive number for a divisional rivalry. The Kings showed a lot of heart in their win over Dallas last night, and the Lakers have failed to cover the spread in four of their last five games as double-digit favorites. I expect the Lakers to win comfortably, but the Kings have enough perimeter scoring to keep this within a 10-point margin during "garbage time."

Kings vs Lakers Total Pick

  • Over 232.5

I am hammering the Over for this Sunday night clash. Neither of these teams has shown an interest in playing defense lately. The Kings have seen the Over hit in seven of their last ten games, and the Lakers’ defense is currently ranked 24th in the league in defensive rating over the last two weeks. With Luka Doncic likely to have his way against a depleted Kings frontcourt and Sacramento forced to play a high-pace game to keep up, this matchup has the makings of a 125-115 track meet.
