Key Matchups for Kings vs. Grizzlies
Trade talk already in Sacramento?
Sacramento has been a mess thus far and teams might be reaching out to see if center Domantas Sabonis is available, along with Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan. The bigger issue for the Kings is the availability of Sabonis, who did play last Sunday, in their 123-110 defeat at San Antonio, which was playing without Victor Wembanyama. He scored 17 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and had five assists. DeRozan added 27 points, while Denis Schroder scored 22 points and dished out five assists off the bench.
Schroder is now coming off the bench, averaging 12.3 points and 5.9 assists with veteran Russell Westbrook (14.4ppg, 6.6rpg, 6.4apg) starting. Age is certainly an issue when you have a 37-year-old starting point guard, a 32-year-old backup point guard, and your second-leading scorer is DeRozan, a 36-year-old who is coming off a 27-point game, but that's after scoring just 10 points combined in his previous two games. LaVine is the leading scorer at 22.7 points per game and is shooting 42.2% from long range. However, he's not known for his defense and the rest of the squad doesn't play a whole lot of D. The Kings are allowing teams to shoot 51% from the field (30th). and 37% from long range (22nd).
Grizz are heading nowhere
Memphis also played the Spurs in their last game on Tuesday without Wembyama (calf) and Stephon Castle, falling 111-101. Former Kings' star De'Aaron Fox scored 26 points to lead the Spurs, while the Grizzlies were led by Cedric Coward (19pts, 11 rebs) and Jaren Jackson Jr. (18pts). The good news for Memphis was that big Zach Edey (7-3. 305) is back in the lineup after missing all but two games. He's averaging 10.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in the early going.
Nothing against Cedric Coward or Vince Williams Jr., but if that's your starting backcourt, you're likely to be 4-11 after 15 games. Ja Morant (calf) just can't stay healthy and is now at least two weeks. That's 18pp and 7.6apg gone from the lineup, though Morant was shooting poorly (35%) from the floor in the 12 games he played. Even former Cleveland Cavalier guard Ty Jerome (12.5ppg, 44% 3pt last year) could help but he's missed the entire season with a calf injury. Memphis is ranked 27th in Adjusted Net Rating on DunksandThrees.com and they are 19th in Adjusted Defensive Rating.

Kings vs. Grizzlies Final Score Prediction
- Memphis 122-Sacramento 108
Memphis is well-rested and even if Morant isn't playing, he wasn't performing to begin with and might seek a trade at some point. Edey adds a powerful post presence on both ends and Sabonis, if he plays, will be neutralized in the paint and on the boards. Sacramento is such an old team that a back-to-back game is tougher for them than normal squads. In their last back-to-back, they faced Atlanta in the second game on Nov. 12 and lost 133-100. Take the Grizzlies to cover and go with the under. The Kings have gone under in three of their last four games before Wednesday. Memphis has gone under in three straight and five of six. They are eighth in pace, but that was mainly with Morant. Without one of the fastest players in the NBA, they'll be more middle-of-the-pack in tempo.
