The Raptors are coming off a 122-116 home loss on Friday against the Milwaukee Bucks, while the Mavericks opened the season on a two-game losing streak after Friday’s 117-107 home loss against the Washington Wizards. This is the first of two games against each other, as they will not play again until March 8. See the floor better with NBA picks for the Toronto Raptors at the Dallas Mavericks.
Raptors Looking to Take the Next Step
The Toronto Raptors, positioned in 10th place in the Eastern Conference with a 1-1 record, are looking to continue playing well and stepping up to begin the season. They were able to keep the game close, but wound up losing at home to the Milwaukee Bucks 122-116, and it does not help when you are outrebounded 51-41.
On offense, Toronto has been able to score the basketball well as they are seventh in the sport as they average 127.0 points per game thus far while shooting 53.3% from the floor and 32.7% from beyond the arc. Power forward Brandon Ingram has been leading the way with 22.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists so far this season.
Defensively, the Raptors are holding their own as they are tied with a couple of teams for 16th in the NBA with 120.0 points per game allowed. They are also giving up 47.2% overall and 32.0% from the 3-point line.
Injury Report for Toronto
- Power forward Collin Murray-Boyles: Forearm (Questionable)

Mavericks Searching for First Win
The Dallas Mavericks are standing in 13th place in the Western Conference to open the season with a 0-2 record as they look to figure things out as the season progresses. They are coming off a 117-107 home loss against the Washington Wizards, and it doesn’t help when the team turns the basketball over 21 times. On the bright side, rookie Cooper Flagg bounced back from a rough opening game against the Spurs to score 18 points against the Wizards.
Offensively, the Mavericks are scoring the basketball at a brutal level as they are dead last in the association as they averaging 99.5 points per game. The offensive numbers need improvement as well, with the team shooting 40.4% from the field and 34.5% from the 3-point line. Power forward Anthony Davis has been leading the team offensively as he is posting 24.5 points, 13.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game thus far. But Davis, while healthy, isn't 100% conditioning-wise.
Defensively, Dallas has been a middling team as they are tied with the Minnesota Timberwolves for 19th with 121.0 points per game given up. They are allowing the opposition to shoot 51.4% overall and 41.1% from distance.
Injury Report for Dallas
- Center Daniel Gafford: Ankle (Questionable)
- Point guard Dante Exum: Knee (Questionable)
- Shooting guard Kyrie Irving: Knee (OUT)
Toronto Raptors at Dallas Mavericks Pick
Spread Pick for Raptors vs. Mavericks
- Toronto Raptors to cover (5 units)
The Dallas Mavericks have looked lost to begin the season and while they have had a tough start, they are struggling to figure out ways of scoring the basketball. First-overall pick Cooper Flagg is averaging 14.0 points per game, which, without Kyrie Irving’s scoring on the floor as he recovers from a torn ACL, is not going to cut it. At 18, the Mavs are asking a lot of the first overall pick to run the offense as the point guard. Toronto has been showing the ability to score and even with the likelihood of Anthony Davis, a former Defensive Player of the Year, guarding Brandon Ingram, the role players for the Raptors are in a better position to take control of the game than the Mavericks right now. Scottie Barnes is also an underrated player who is becoming a star. All in all, go with the Toronto Raptors to cover the spread as they are playing at a better level to open the season.
Over/Under Pick for Raptors vs. Mavericks
- Over (5 units)
These teams are going to push the pace with their younger rosters as they have done so through the beginning week of the season. Toronto ranks third in the league with a 108.75 pace, while Dallas is 13th with a 104.5 pace up to this point. The Mavs need to get Flagg out in transition because of his athleticism. Both defenses are also struggling as they are fouling too much and sending the opposition to the free-throw line, allowing the game to get additional points. The Raptors are allowing 31.0 free-throw attempts per game, while the Mavericks are allowing 28.5 so far. With both teams having players that should be able to shoot the ball well when looking at their career numbers, go with the over as the better play for Sunday’s game.
