Jazz Earn Huge Road Win
Utah overcame a double-digit second-half deficit as they beat the Boston Celtics 105-103 at the buzzer Monday night. Keyonte George scored a season-high 31 points, and Lauri Markkanen added 20 points and nine rebounds to help the Jazz end a three-game losing streak.
- Utah erased a 10-point halftime deficit, outscoring the Celtics 25-14 over the first seven minutes coming out of the break to take its first lead of the night, 61-60.
- Josef Nurkic had a tip-in with less than a second left to win it for the Jazz.
- George has been excellent to start this season, and that continued against Boston as he set a new season-high for scoring. He was not able to dish out as many assists as he has in every other game this season, but he made up for it with a season-low for turnovers and his best field goal percentage of the season.
- Nurkic recorded a double-double on Monday with 11 points (5-of-12 FGs), 11 rebounds, four assists, and one block. Nurkic remained in the starting lineup in place of Walker Kessler (shoulder) for a second straight game, and Kessler is set to miss at least two more games.

Pistons Handle the Grizzlies
Facing the Grizzlies on the road in Ja Morant’s return from a one-game suspension, Cade Cunningham scored 19 of his 33 points in the fourth quarter in a 114-106 win. Isaiah Stewart added 26 points and 14 rebounds, and Jalen Duren and Ron Holland II had 14 points each.
- Detroit built a 58-48 lead at the half as Memphis struggled with a plague of turnovers and a 33% shooting half.
- It was Stewart’s first start of the season, and he finished with season-highs in points and rebounds while tying his season-high for blocks, assists, and three-pointers.
- The Pistons would end the night with 58 points in the paint, compared to 30 for Memphis.
- Any slow start to the season is certainly behind Cunningham at this point. Over the last three games, he is averaging 28.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 12.0 assists, 2.0 steals, 1.3 blocks, and 2.0 three-pointers while shooting 51.7% from the field. He set a career-high for assists in his last game and set a season-high for points in this one. Cunningham is on fire, which has led to Detroit’s three-game win streak.
- Forward Tobias Harris (ankle) is questionable.
Jazz vs. Pistons Game Pick
Spread Pick for Jazz vs. Pistons
- Detroit Pistons ATS (5 units)
Although the Jazz are in another rebuilding year, they earned a huge road win against the Celtics last game. But Boston shot 20% from beyond the arc and looked out of sync throughout the game. Utah only registered 105 points in the game, and they were lucky to get out of Boston with a win. I do not like their chances here in this road game against Detroit, who rank fifth in defensive rating. Utah is turning it over the second most in the NBA. Take Detroit to win and cover.
OVER/UNDER PICK for Jazz vs. Pistons
- OVER (4 units)
Cade Cunningham scuffled out of the gate at the start of the season, and it led to a sluggish start for the Pistons. Over the last three games, he is averaging 28.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 12.0 assists, 2.0 steals, 1.3 blocks, and 2.0 three-pointers while shooting 51.7% from the field. He set a career-high for assists in his last game and set a season-high for points against the Grizzlies. Cunningham is on fire, which has led to Detroit’s three-game win streak, and I like him to continue that trend here against the Jazz. Both clubs are middle of the pack in pace, but Detroit has been playing well as of late, and Utah is coming off a huge win. Take the over here.
