Key Matchups for Wizards vs. Timberwolves
A new low for the Wizards
The battle of the basement of the Eastern Conference turned into a laugher on Sunday. Washington was a favorite for the first time this season and got punched in the mouth, 129-106, against the lowly Brooklyn Nets at home. The Wizards even (reportedly) had a players-only meeting after the game. That's what happens when you surrender 129 points at home to a one-win team and allow them to shoot 53% from the field and 41% from beyond the arc. The only positive came from second-year pro Kyshawn George, who had 29 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
The Wizards rank last in most defensive categories, and they are 29th in total rebounding rate. Alex Sarr did not have a good game against the Nets (9pts) as it was the only game he scored in single digits all season. He leads the Wiz with 18.3 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game. George adds 16.9 points and 6.1 rebounds, while shooting 50.7% from the floor and 44.9% from long range.
T-Wolves are healthier and happier
Star guard Anthony Edwards has played in 10 of Minnesota's 14 games. Edwards missed some games in late October and early November, but the team managed to stay afloat. Now they are healthy and have won five of their last six games, with the only loss coming against Denver (123-112) on Nov. 15. In their last game, the T-Wolves had an easy 120-96 win over slumping and short-handed Dallas. Center Naz Reid led the way for the T-Wolves with 22 points, while Edwards was held to just 13 points on 5-of-14 shooting. Minnesota took advantage of a Dallas team playing without their three big men: Anthony Davis, Dereck Lively II and Daniel Gafford.
Edwards leads the T-Wolves with 25.9 points on 46.7% shooting (38.8% 3pt). F Julius Randle adds 24.5 points, 7.3 rebounds and 6.1 assists, while shooting 52% from the field. Minnesota has an Adjusted Net Rating of +3.1 to rank sixth in the NBA, according to Dunks and Threes. They rank 8th in Adjusted Offensive rating and 9th in Adjusted Defense.

Wizards vs. Timberwolves Final Score Prediction
- Minnesota Timberwolves 132-Washington 112
The T-Wolves are playing their best basketball because they are healthy and playing well together. If Edwards is off, he has Reid, Randle and Jayden McDaniels (17.5ppg), who is one of the more underrated players in the league. They also still have Rudy Gobert protecting he paint against countryman Sarr, who will have a tough time against the "Stifle Tower". Washington is 1-12 for a reason. Their defense is 30th in Adjusted Efficiency and let's face it, they just don't guard. They also don't cover (1-10 L11). About the only thing they do well is push the pace at 4th in the NBA. Washington is somehow not last (28th) in the NBA, allowing 129.7 points per game.
