The Carolina Panthers travel to EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida, to face the Jacksonville Jaguars in NFL preseason Week 2 action on Friday, August 21, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Jacksonville enters at 1-0 after rallying past New Orleans 24-20, while Carolina comes off a 29-14 loss at Buffalo. The Panthers have already played twice this preseason, including the Hall of Fame Game, while Jacksonville has played once. The current line has Jacksonville favored by 2.5 points, with the Jaguars around -126 on the moneyline and Carolina +108. The total is 39.5 points.

Panthers Need More From the Offense

Carolina's latest preseason appearance was a 29-14 loss to Buffalo, and the Panthers struggled to consistently move the football. The first-team offense went three-and-out on all three of its possessions with Bryce Young at quarterback. Young finished 6-of-9 for only 18 yards, leaving Carolina with plenty to clean up before Friday night's game.

The offense improved once the quarterback rotation changed. Kenny Pickett completed 16 of 19 passes for 92 yards and threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Ja'Seem Reed. Kyle Trask handled the late-game work and threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to John Metchie III in the final minute, although he also threw an interception. Carolina's reserve quarterbacks therefore provided more sustained offense than the starters, but the Panthers still finished with only 201 total yards compared with Buffalo's 396.

Defensively, Carolina had some positive moments from its pass rush, but Buffalo controlled too much of the game. The Bills generated 396 yards and scored 29 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter. For preseason handicapping purposes, Carolina's depth is the concern: the Panthers were competitive in portions of the game, but Buffalo was able to create separation as the afternoon progressed. With Jacksonville having already shown the ability to win a game with its reserves, Carolina needs a cleaner performance across the entire depth chart.

Jaguars Look to Build on Week 1 Comeback

Jacksonville opened its preseason with a 24-20 road victory over New Orleans, but the final score doesn't tell the whole story. The Jaguars trailed 20-6 at halftime before producing an 18-0 second half. Nick Mullens started and completed 3 of 7 passes for 33 yards with one interception, while Carter Bradley completed 10 of 17 for 105 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Joey Aguilar later completed his only attempt for 43 yards.

The Jaguars' ground game was particularly important to the comeback. J'Mari Taylor rushed 22 times for 78 yards, including 58 yards after halftime, while DeeJay Dallas added 26 yards on 10 carries. Bradley's one-yard touchdown pass to Hunter Long helped cut the deficit to 20-14 in the third quarter, and Jacksonville eventually completed the comeback. That second-half response is noteworthy in a preseason game because it demonstrated that Jacksonville's deeper roster could continue executing after many of the more established players were out of the game.

Jacksonville also generated consistent defensive pressure with four sacks against New Orleans. The Jaguars won despite resting a substantial collection of established players, including Trevor Lawrence and numerous other projected contributors. Head coach Liam Coen subsequently indicated that starters may play against Carolina, which adds another variable favoring Jacksonville if the Jaguars elect to give their higher-level units meaningful work Friday night.

Carolina Panthers vs Jacksonville Jaguars Picks and Prediction

Pick: Jacksonville Jaguars -2.5

I'll lay the 2.5 points with Jacksonville. Carolina's first-team offense produced only 18 passing yards with Young against Buffalo, and the Panthers finished with just 201 total yards, while Jacksonville demonstrated better late-game depth by overcoming a 20-6 halftime deficit against New Orleans. The possibility of Jacksonville giving more starters work also strengthens the case at a number below a field goal. Carolina has already played two preseason games and may have the experience advantage, but based on the most recent performances, Jacksonville -2.5 is the side.

Pick: Under 39.5

I'll take Under 39.5 for the total. Carolina's offense managed only 14 points against Buffalo and did most of its scoring after the first-team offense departed, while Jacksonville's offense struggled badly in the first half against New Orleans before its reserves rallied. Both defenses also showed the ability to generate pressure, with Jacksonville recording four sacks in its opener. A score in the low-to-mid 20s for Jacksonville with Carolina staying in the teens fits the statistical profile, making the Under 39.5 the preferred total.

Prediction: Jacksonville Jaguars 23, Carolina Panthers 16
