Chicago Bears vs Carolina Panthers Picks and Prediction for Sunday September 13 2026

The Chicago Bears travel to Carolina to face the Panthers on Sunday, September 13, in the regular-season opener for both teams. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM ET. Chicago enters 2026 looking to build upon a breakthrough season that included the NFC North championship and a playoff victory, while Carolina hopes another year of development can push its young offense forward. The current market has Chicago favored by three points on the road with a total of 47.5. Can you believe the NFL season is here? Neither can we, but our NFL picks are still the best around.

Caleb Williams Looks to Build on a Breakthrough Season

Caleb Williams enters his third NFL season after making a major jump during his first year working with head coach Ben Johnson. Williams set a Bears single-season franchise record with 3,942 passing yards in 2025 while leading Chicago to the NFC North championship and a playoff victory over Green Bay. Chicago also won seven games in which it trailed during the final two minutes, demonstrating an ability to survive close games that could become important laying a field goal on the road.

Chicago's current depth chart places D'Andre Swift atop the running back room, with Kyle Monangai and Roschon Johnson behind him. The receiving group includes Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III, while Cole Kmet and Colston Loveland give Williams multiple options at tight end. It's an offense with enough variety for Johnson to attack Carolina differently depending on how the Panthers defend Williams.

There are injury concerns worth monitoring. Swift and Odunze both left a recent practice early, while Monangai's Week 1 status has also generated uncertainty. Those situations need to be watched because Chicago's offensive depth is a major part of the argument for laying points on the road.

Defensively, Chicago's depth chart includes Montez Sweat, Grady Jarrett, T.J. Edwards, Jaylon Johnson and Dillon Thieneman among the starters. The Bears don't need the defense to completely dominate Carolina, but preventing Bryce Young from consistently generating explosive plays would put Williams in position to control this matchup.

Bryce Young Continues His Development in Carolina

Bryce Young showed continued statistical improvement in 2025. He completed 304 of 478 passes for 3,011 yards, 23 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 16 games, producing an 87.8 passer rating. His touchdown total increased from 15 in 2024 to 23 last season, another encouraging sign that Carolina's patience with its young quarterback has begun producing results.

Carolina has also made Young one of its five captains for the 2026 season alongside Chuba Hubbard, Derrick Brown, Devin Lloyd and JJ Jansen. That reinforces Young's position as the unquestioned leader of the offense entering his fourth NFL season.

The Panthers need more from their rushing attack. Hubbard rushed 134 times for 511 yards and one touchdown last season after producing 1,195 yards and 10 rushing touchdowns in 2024. He added 30 receptions for 223 yards and three receiving touchdowns, so his ability to contribute in multiple phases remains valuable. Carolina has indicated that Hubbard should be available for the opener despite dealing with a hamstring injury during the preseason.

Carolina was competitive enough last season to reach the playoffs but finished the regular season 8-9 before losing 34-31 to Los Angeles in the Wild Card round. The Panthers produced several quality home performances during that campaign, so Chicago should not treat this as an easy road assignment.

Chicago Bears vs Carolina Panthers Picks and Prediction

Pick: Chicago Bears -3

Carolina has enough talent to make this competitive, but Chicago -3 is the preferred play. Williams enters Year 3 after setting the franchise passing record, and the Bears have surrounded him with multiple receiving and tight-end options. Carolina should be improved, and Young's 23 touchdown passes last season show legitimate progress, but Chicago enters with the higher offensive ceiling and a quarterback who already demonstrated an unusual ability to deliver late in close games. At exactly a field goal, I'll lay the points with Chicago. I would be considerably less interested if this moves through -3 to -3.5.

Pick: Over 47.5

Over 47.5 gets the call on the total. Williams is coming off a 3,942-yard season, while Young increased his production to 23 touchdown passes and Carolina scored 30 or more points several times last season. The Panthers' final game of 2025 finished 34-31 in the playoffs, and both offenses enter 2026 with quarterbacks capable of taking another step. Chicago's skill-position injuries need monitoring, but with the current information available, something around 27-23 or 28-24 is realistic. Take Over 47.5.

Final Picks: Chicago Bears -3 and Over 47.5
