Lions Looking to Capture Division Lead
The Detroit Lions are coming off a tough 27-24 home loss in Week 9 against a divisional opponent in the Minnesota Vikings. Quarterback Jared Goff played well in the game as he completed 25-of-37 passes for 284 yards with a pair of passing touchdowns, but he was also sacked five times. The team scored 24 points on 305 total yards (240 passing, 65 rushing). The team could not sustain drives as they tallied just 15 total first downs and turned the ball over with a fumble.
The defense of the Lions allowed the Minnesota Vikings to record 27 points on 358 total yards (116 passing, 142 rushing). The defense limited them as they held Minnesota to 20 total first downs and 4-for-12 on third downs in the game. Detroit was able to force an interception and made Minnesota 3-for-5 on red zone attempts in the game. However, they couldn’t stop the run as the Vikings averaged 4.9 yards per attempt throughout the day.
The Detroit Lions have been a great offensive team as they rank second in the NFL with 29.9 points per game. They have been getting great performances out of quarterback Jared Goff as he has completed 177-of-240 (73.8%) of his passes for 1,915 yards with 17 passing touchdowns to three interceptions. Their defense is looking to get better than average as they are tied for 13th in the sport with 22.3 opposing points per game.
Commanders Looking to Keep Their Season Alive
The Washington Commanders lost at home 38-14 in Week 9 against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. The offense was able to score 14 points on 290 total yards (133 passing, 157 rushing) in the game. Quarterback Jayden Daniels completed 16-of-22 passes for 153 yards with an interception as well as 10 carries for 51 yards (5.1 yards per attempt) and a rushing touchdown. However, Daniels left with an elbow injury and will not be playing for a while as a result. The Commanders turned the ball over twice (one interception, one fumble recovery) and averaged 4.7 yards per play throughout the game.
The defense of the Commanders allowed 38 points on 418 total yards (330 passing, 88 rushing). Washington allowed Seattle to go 7-for-11 on third downs throughout the game as well and a big reason was the fact that the Seahawks were able to throw for 13.8 yards per pass attempt. Their defense did record an interception, but the defense could not apply much pressure with one quarterback hit, two tackles for loss, and three pass deflections.
The Commanders are putting up a middling 22.3 points per game this season, which places them 20th in the sport. With the injury to Daniels, the team will depend on backup Marcus Mariota going forward, as he has completed 56-of-88 (63.6%) of his passes for 639 yards with four passing touchdowns and four interceptions. The defense needs to show some life as they are 22nd in the NFL with 26.2 points allowed per game.

Lions vs. Commanders Pick
Spread Pick for Lions vs. Commanders
- Detroit Lions -8.5 (5 units)
This is one of the bigger numbers on the slate, but there is a good reason. Marcus Mariota is a respectable quarterback, but this Lions offense is going to be difficult to slow down, especially after coming off a loss. The Commanders also lost their kick returner in Luke McCaffrey last week, and that is getting underplayed throughout the discussion for this game. Having Deebo Samuel return kicks just makes him have to take a few more hits and tire him out. Washington also lost Marcus Lattimore for the season, making covering wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown even more difficult. There is a reason why the Lions are 5-3 ATS this year while the Commanders are just 3-6 ATS, so go with the Detroit Lions to cover the spread in this matchup as well.
Over/Under Pick for Lions vs. Commanders
- UNDER 49.5 (4 units)
This game is going to be interesting, as this could be a game where the Detroit defense steps up, especially with all the injuries piled up on the offensive side for Washington. Aiden Hutchinson has been stepping up as he has five sacks in his last five games as well, so he has shown the ability to dominate throughout the last month or so. Washington has struggled defensively over the last week, but with the lack of offense, coach Dan Quinn should play this game conservatively to the point that their offense is going to be vanilla. All in all, go with UNDER 49.5 POINTS to hit in this game here.
