Detroit Lions vs Green Bay Packers Picks and Prediction for Sunday, September 7, 2025

The Detroit Lions are heading to Lambeau Field on Sunday afternoon in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season as they take on the Green Bay Packers in our Lions vs. Packers prediction. These teams both made the playoffs last season. Stay ahead of the sticks with NFL predictions for the Detroit Lions vs the Green Bay Packers in this NFC North battle.

Lions Looking to Dominate Early

The Detroit Lions are looking to step up and be back to where they were throughout last season, where the team was 15-2 and lost in the NFC Divisional Round to the Washington Commanders. This Lions team was one of the top in the sport, but failed to live up to the postseason hype. Quarterback Jared Goff is searching to be a significant force once again.

The Lions lost both coordinators to head coaching positions elsewhere. The defense was not able to stay healthy and that was a major cause for concern. If Detroit can stay healthy and play up to their potential, it could be a team that makes a lot of noise once again this season. This team is loaded with talent on offense, led by Goff, who threw for 4,629 yards with 37 TDs and 12 picks to lead the NFL's most potent offense that averaged 33.2 points per game. RB Jahmyr Gibbs added 1,412 yards and 20 TDs (rushing and receiving) for an NFL best in touchdowns scored. The defense also gets a boost from the return of Edge rusher Aiden Hutchinson, who missed the final 11 games last season with a broken leg.

Packers Add to the Team Late

The Green Bay Packers are looking to take a step forward as they have one of the youngest rosters in the sport. Last season, the team finished 11-6 to get an NFC Wild Card spot and lost in the Wild Card Round to the Philadelphia Eagles. The offense is hoping to see quarterback Jordan Love take another step up and with the addition of rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden from Texas, that should be a boost for the offense. Love threw for 3,389 yards with 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 2024.

The Packers are improving on the defensive side of the field, too, with the trade last week to acquire elite pass rusher Micah Parsons from Dallas for two future first-round picks and DT Kenny Clark. With the ability to create pressure, this should help Green Bay get to the quarterback more often and make the remaining 10 people on defense’s job even easier. Last season, the Packers recorded 45 sacks in the regular season to rank seventh, so they were pretty good to begin with. Rashan Gary led the team with 7.5 sacks for the Packers last season.

Injury Report for Green Bay

  • Offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins: Hip (Questionable)
  • Defensive lineman Micah Parsons: Back (Questionable)
  • Cornerback Nate Hobbs: Knee (Questionable)
  • Safety Zayne Anderson: Knee (Questionable)
  • Wide receiver Jayden Reed: Foot (Questionable)
  • Wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks: Calf (Questionable)
  • Wide receiver Savion Williams: Hamstring (Questionable)
  • Defensive lineman Barryn Sorrell: Knee (Questionable)
  • Wide receiver Christian Watson: Knee (OUT)
  • Defensive lineman Collin Oliver: Hamstring (OUT)
  • Offensive guard John Williams: Back (OUT)

Lions vs. Packers Pick

Spread Pick for Lions vs. Packers

  • Green Bay Packers -130 (5 units)

The departure of a team’s offensive and defensive coordinator is going to make things a lot more difficult. Even if the Packers can only use Micah Parsons on limited snaps, the pressure he can create should overwhelm the Lions. Goff ia also not the most mobile quarterback so he'll be forced to move out of his comfort zone. Detroit lost some key pieces on offense, specifically to their offensive line. Jordan Love has pressure this season and beating a team that was ahead of them in the standings last year. All in all, go with the Green Bay Packers to secure a win.

Over/Under Pick for Lions vs. Packers

  • Under 47.5 (4 units)

The Lions and the Packers are bringing some of the best defenses in the National Football League. Hutchinson is a game-changer for the Lions. There is also a strong chance that the bad postseason game can make Jared Goff struggle a bit early in the season. These offenses have been solid, but they are going to have strong defenses in this game. Take under 47.5 total points as the better bet as these teams are familiar with one another as well.
