Giants lose historic heartbreaker to Broncos in Week 7
Everything looked like it was going the New York Giants' way early in their meeting with the Broncos. After both teams punted twice to open the game, rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart found a wide-open Daniel Bellinger 44 yards downfield, giving the tight end his first touchdown catch since 2022 and putting the Giants up 7-0. The ensuing Broncos drive struggled to go 18 yards, starting at the team's six-yard line after rookie back R.J. Harvey caught the ball near the sideline. The Broncos ended a 13-play, 64-yard drive in the second quarter with a turnover on downs, failing to crack into the endzone from two yards out. None of the Broncos' other drives in the second or third quarter went over 20 yards; the Giants, meanwhile, scored two more touchdowns and built a 19-0 lead–kicker Jude McAtamney missed an extra point on the second touchdown, while the team failed a two-point attempt on the third.
Of course, the Giants lost after becoming the first team in NFL history to shut an opponent out for three quarters and give up 33 points in the fourth. Dart completed 15 of 33 passes for 283 yards, throwing three touchdowns but giving up a fourth-quarter interception that proved crucial for the Broncos' comeback bid. McAtamney was waived after the game and remains on the team's practice squad ahead of round two with the Eagles. It's unclear who'll kick for the Giants on Sunday–veteran kicker Younghoe Koo is currently on the practice squad with McAtamney, and Graham Gano is eligible to return from injured reserve after suffering a groin injury in Week 3.

The Giants, led by Dart and rookie RB Cam Skattebo, have energized the offense, especially on the ground. Skattebo leads the team with 398 yards and five TDs, while Dart has rushed for 178 yards and three scores. New York averages 126.1 rushing yards per game to rank 11th and allows 130.7 yards per game on teh ground to rank 23rd.
Gano is listed as questionable on the Giants' injury report. Among the team's other starters, he's joined by Dart (ankle), right tackle Jermaine Eluemenor (knee), center John Michael Schmitz (concussion), outside linebacker Brian Burns (hip), cornerback Paulson Adebo (knee), and safety Jevon Holland (neck). Adebo has been ruled out for Sunday; Holland is doubtful, while Burns is questionable. Dart, Eluemenor, and Schmitz are expected to play.
Eagles will miss Brown after beating Vikings through the air
The Philadelphia Eagles handled their meeting with the Minnesota Vikings this past Sunday, winning 28-22 after scoring on the opening possession and never giving up the lead. They're up to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in road games, but will return home this week to host their rematch with the Giants.
Jalen Hurts completed 19 of 23 passes for 326 yards and three touchdowns, matching his season-high marks in both completion percentage (82.6%) and touchdowns while crossing the 300-yard mark for the first time. The first of those touchdowns was caught on the opening drive by A.J. Brown, who finished the game with 121 yards and two touchdowns on only four catches. DeVonta Smith led the team in catches with nine catches and 183 yards while hauling in a touchdown of his own, which came on a 79-yard play in the third quarter. The defense played exceptionally well against the Vikings and quarterback Carson Wentz, taking two interceptions in the second quarter – one of which was returned for a touchdown by Jalyx Hunt. Cooper DeJean had a highlight defensive play late in the second quarter, knocking a would-be touchdown pass from the hands of superstar receiver Justin Jefferson and forcing the Vikings to kick a field goal two plays later.
Brown is out for the upcoming game against the Giants after suffering a pectoral injury. He's one of six players ruled out on the team's 12-player injury report, but cornerback Adoree Jackson is the only other starter among them. Brown's absence might force the Eagles to channel more of their offense through the ground game, but Hurts' passing numbers against the Vikings covered for a quietly ineffective game from Saquon Barkley. The star running back gained only 44 yards on 18 carries against the Vikings, averaging 2.4 yards per carry, and lost two yards on his lone catch. It was Barkley's third game this season with over 15 carries but fewer than 50 rushing yards, and his first in which he failed to take a single carry for ten yards or more.
Overall, the Eagles have struggled defensively, allowing 127.9 rushing yards per game and (22nd) and 221.3 passing yards (19th). Offensively, they've been worse, ranking 31st in the NFL in yards per game with 286.9 and 31st in yards per rush with 3.3.
Giants vs. Eagles Pick
Spread Pick for Giants vs. Eagles
- New York Giants +7.5 (-118) (5 Units)
The Eagles, even at 5-2, have yet to beat a team by more than seven points this season. They're 4-3 against the spread while being favored in all seven games, but they've only been favored to win by 7.5 or more twice this season. One of those games was their meeting with the Giants earlier this month, which the Giants won 34-17. I wouldn't expect the script to suddenly flip three weeks later with A.J. Brown unavailable, despite the Giants' injuries. Philly has struggled to generate offense and now their best passing weapon is out.
Over/Under Pick for Giants vs. Eagles
- Over 44.0 (-110) (4 Units)
These teams have both played a handful of games that ended with fewer than 44 points scored, but they hit 51 total points in their last meeting. Dart has now played four games for the Giants since taking the starting quarterback job, all of which have ended with 39 or more total points scored. On the Eagles' side, the Team Total Over is 4-1 in their last five games–only falling short in their 21-17 loss to the defensively stout Broncos.
