Giants look solid with Kafka, Winston

The New York Giants entered a new, if temporary, era under interim head coach Mike Kafka last Sunday. Jameis Winston got his first start of the season with rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart in concussion protocol, and the team looked competitive in their 27-20 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Winston completed 19 of 29 passes for 201 yards, averaging a 65.5 completion percentage and 6.9 yards per attempt. He executed two long drives in the fourth quarter, the first of which started at the Giants' 15-yard line and ended with Winston running the ball into the endzone from a yard out. The second drive gained 51 yards over 10 plays before ending on what appeared to be a miscommunication between Winston and receiver Jalin Hyatt, who's seen a significantly reduced role in his third year with the team. Tyrone Tracy and Devin Singletary ran the ball a combined 35 times, gaining a total of 132 yards (88 from Tracy) and two touchdowns (both from Singletary). Isaiah Hodgins, playing his first game of the 2025 season, led the team in receiving with 57 yards on five catches. Brian Burns starred on a defense that got after Packers quarterback Jordan Love, logging four of the team's eight quarterback hits and both of their two sacks. He's up to 13 sacks this year–a number that ranks second in the league, trailing only Myles Garrett (15).

Dart remains in the concussion protocol and has been ruled out for Sunday's game. Darius Slayton (hamstring), who ranks second among the team's active receivers in targets (34), receptions (23), and yards (343), is set to return to the field after missing the game against the Packers.

Key Injury Report for Giants:

  • QB Jaxson Dart (concussion) is out.
  • Defensive starters Kayvon Thibodeaux (shoulder) and Paulson Adebo (knee) will remain sidelined after not participating in practice this week.
  • CB Deonte Banks (hip) is questionable.

Lions fall to Eagles in an offensively lacking showing

The Detroit Lions slogged through their meeting with the Eagles last Sunday, ultimately losing 16-9 and falling to 6-4 on the season. The game dropped them to third in the NFC North standings–half a game behind the 6-3-1 Packers, whom they'll play on Thanksgiving, and a full game behind the 7-3 Bears.

Little went well for the Lions' offense against the Eagles' defense–a unit that strengthened itself at the recent trade deadline after looking strong enough already through the year's early action. Jared Goff completed only 14 of 37 passes for 255 yards, finishing the game with a 37.8 completion percentage. The Eagles' defense racked up two sacks, seven quarterback hits, and ten pass defenses–including five deflections at the line by defensive tackles Jordan Davis (3) and Jalen Carter (2). Jahmyr Gibbs and Jameson Williams combined for 195 yards and a touchdown on nine catches, but Gibbs was held to an unremarkable 39 yards over 12 carries on the ground. Amon-Ra St. Brown had a game to forget, leading the team with 12 targets but finishing the game with only two catches for 42 yards.

Key Injury Report for Lions

  • S Kerby Joseph (knee) for a fifth straight game.
  • CB Terrion Arnold (concussion) will be missing his second straight game and his fourth game in the last seven weeks.
  • OT Taylor Decker (shoulder) , G Graham Glasgow (knee), OG Tate Ratledge (knee), OT Penei Sewell (ankle) are all questionable.
  • TE Sam LaPorta (back surgery) was placed on the IR and is out for the season.

Giants vs. Lions Pick

Spread Pick for Giants vs. Lions

  • Giants +12.5 (-110) (4 Units)

The Giants have lost six of their last seven games, but their 38-20 loss to the Eagles is the only one in which they would've failed to cover a 12.5-point spread as underdogs. Their defense isn't nearly the brick wall that the Eagles' defense is, but they're still bringing a premium front to a fight against an injury-diminished offensive line. The Lions will try to run the ball–if they can't do so at will, Brian Burns and company should keep the G-Men in the game.

Over/Under Pick for Giants vs. Lions

  • Under 50.0 (-110) (4 Units)

A 50-point line is an ambitious pregame total for a game in which one team scored 9 points the previous week. The Giants' defense isn't the Eagles' defense, but the Lions' offense is still an injury-battered unit with most of the starters on the offensive line listed as questionable. At home, Detroit is elite defensively, allowing just 274.2 yards per game and 16.2 points. I'd expect this to be closer to their showing against the Eagles than their 44-22 rout of the Commanders two weeks ago.
