Green Bay Packers Relying on Their Passing Game

Green Bay has stopped giving opponents much room to score. The Packers held Dallas to 13 points, Chicago to seven and Tampa Bay to 14. That's three straight wins after Atlanta beat them 35-14 in September. Their offense hasn't always been convincing, although Jordan Love has made big plays downfield. Green Bay averages 21.2 points and 329.2 yards per game. The rushing attack has struggled, producing just 59.8 yards a week. That puts pressure on Love when the Packers need to keep drives moving.

Love has thrown for 1,684 yards, 11 touchdowns and four interceptions in six games. Christian Watson has caught 29 passes for 538 yards and six scores. Matthew Golden isn't far behind with 501 yards and three touchdowns. MarShawn Lloyd leads the running backs with only 122 yards on 48 carries. Defensively, Xavier McKinney has three interceptions, while Lukas Van Ness has 3.5 sacks. Evan Williams has made 52 tackles. Green Bay has won despite its running problems, but Detroit presents a different challenge.

Injuries: Brandon Cisse is questionable. Aaron Banks, Benjamin St-Juste, Donovan Jennings and Jager Burton are inactive.

Detroit Lions Scoring in Bunches

Detroit hasn't had trouble finding the end zone. The Lions put 45 points on Arizona in their latest game, following a 32-26 loss to Carolina and a 31-24 win over the Jets. They've scored at least 26 points in all five outings, averaging 32.8 per game. Their offense gains 393.8 yards a week, including 114.2 on the ground. Defense is a different story. Opponents have scored 29.6 points per game and gained 404.4 yards. Detroit has needed plenty of scoring to win.

Jared Goff has thrown 12 touchdown passes without an interception, completing 67.0% of his attempts for 1,485 yards. Jahmyr Gibbs has rushed for 504 yards and seven touchdowns while adding 243 receiving yards. Amon-Ra St. Brown has 37 catches for 372 yards and five scores. Sam LaPorta has added 316 receiving yards. On defense, DJ Wonnum leads the Lions with five sacks, and Aidan Hutchinson has four. The offense has carried Detroit, particularly with Goff taking care of the football.

Injuries: Ben Bartch, Devin White and Tom Kennedy are on injured reserve. Rock Ya-Sin is questionable. Cade Mays is designated to return from injured reserve.

Key To The Game

Green Bay has allowed just 34 points in its last three games, but Detroit averages 32.8 points per outing. The Packers need to slow Gibbs. Detroit needs to keep Love from finding big gains downfield.

Green Bay Packers vs Detroit Lions Pick

  • Detroit Lions -3

Detroit's offense has produced at least 26 points in every game, and Goff hasn't thrown an interception yet. Gibbs gives the Lions a rushing threat Green Bay has struggled to match. The Packers have been sharp defensively over their last three games, but Detroit brings more scoring options than those opponents. At Ford Field, the Lions will keep moving the chains and cover the three-point spread against Green Bay Sunday.

Green Bay Packers vs Detroit Lions Over/Under Pick

  • Under 52.5

Detroit games have featured plenty of scoring, but Green Bay has held its last three opponents to 14 points or fewer. The Packers are averaging just 21.2 points themselves, and their running game produces only 59.8 yards per outing. Detroit can score quickly, yet Green Bay's defense has been keeping games manageable. With the total at 52.5, the Packers will limit enough possessions for this matchup to finish under Sunday.
