Texans versus Ravens Picks and Predictions - Sunday, October 5th

The Texans are traveling to M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland, for their week five matchup against the Ravens; keep reading for our Texans versus Ravens prediction. Houston is third in the AFC South with a record of 1-3.ย  Baltimore is third in the AFC North with a record of 1-3. The Ravens won their last meeting against the Texans with a final score of 31-2. Houston Grabs Their First Win

The Texans are coming off a win last week against the Titans with a final score of 26-0 in an AFC South battle. This is the first win of the season for the Texans as they break up a three-game losing streak. Houston will be looking to find their first road win of the season on Sunday against Baltimore.

Houston this season is relying heavily on their defense, as it leads the league in points allowed, only allowing 51 points in its first four games. One of the keys to their great defense has been their pass defense, which sits seventh overall in passing yards and fifth in passing yards per reception at 5.9. This, in combination with the Texans sitting seventh in sacks, has created a defense that many teams have struggled to produce much success in the air, and as a result, not many points.

On offense, we are not seeing the same success with the Texans sitting 29th in points this season and 25th in total yards. Quarterback C.J. Stroud has attempted to redo his past success from last season, but so far has struggled to generate much offense for his team. Stroud is averaging 208 yards per game and has only four touchdowns across his four games played. He's completing 67.5% of his passes with three picks and has been sacked 10 times. He was sacked 52 times last season.ย  Houston will need to focus on their offense if they wishes to capitalize on their reliable defense.

Ravensโ€™ Defense Continues To Struggle

The Ravens picked up another loss on Sunday versus the Chiefs with a final score of 37-20. This is the third loss of the season for the Ravens as they continue to struggle to generate wins. Baltimore will be looking for their first non-divisional win of the season.

Baltimore has been one of the better offenses this season, ranking third overall in points. The Ravensโ€™ run game remains as one of the more reliable ones in the league, ranking tenth overall in total rushing yards and leading the league in yards per carry at 6.2.ย  The combined run game of quarterback Lamar Jackson and running back Derrick Henry has led the team to many of their scoring drives. Henry leads the team in yards per game at 7.1, while Jackson is right behind him with 41.5 yards per game. Jackson is not expected to play in this one due to a hamstring injury, which means former Dallas backup Cooper Rush will get the call.

While the offense has been great for the Ravens, the defense, however, has struggled. The Ravens rank last in the league in points allowed, allowing a total of 133 points in their four games played. The pass defense for the Ravens has been their biggest weakness, ranking 28th in passing yards allowed this season and they are the third-worst team in sacks. The defensive line for the Ravens has been unable to put much pressure on opposing quarterbacks and as a result has led to their opponents scoring consistently on drives. Their defense could be missing as many as four Pro Bowlers with CB Marlon Humphrey, LB Roquan Smith and DT Nnamdi Madubuike out. S Kyle Hamilton (groin) was injured in practice on Wednesday and missed the last two practices.

Injuries:

  • Oweh LB Injured - Eye
  • Awuzie CB Injured - Hamstring
  • Hamilton S Injured - Groin
  • Humphrey CB Injured - Calf
  • Jackson QB Injured - Hamstring
  • Jones Jr. OT Injured - Shoulder
  • Jones DL Injured - Knee
  • Linderbaum C Injured - Calf
  • Ricard FB Injured - Calf
  • Smith LB Injured - Hamstring
  • Stanley OT Injured - Ankle
  • Urban DL Injured - Finger
  • Van Noy LB Injured - Hamstring
  • Walker WR Injured - Oblique
  • Wiggins CB Injured - Elbow

Texans versus Ravens Picks and Predictions

Money Line Pick for Texans versus Ravens

  • Houston Money Line (-132) (5 units)ย

The Texans had a record of 4-1 as favorites on the road in 2024. The Ravens are 0-4 as underdogs in their last four games at home dating back to 2021. Quarterback Lamar Jackson is still questionable to start against Houston, and without him at the helm, I severely doubt that the Ravens will have much of a chance against the Texans. Houston has thrived on defense and their largest issue has been their offense this season, but they will be facing one of the worst defenses in the league. Without quarterback play from Lamar Jackson leading the offense, this will be an easy win for Houston.

Over/Under Pick for Texans versus Ravens

  • Under 40.5 (-110 ) (5 units)ย

The Texans have an over/under record of 1-8-1 in their last ten games against the Ravens. Houston also has an over/under record of 0-4 this season. Houston is going to keep the Ravensโ€™ injured offense in check and will likely stop many of their drives. This will leave most of the total to be determined by the Texans. While Houston is facing one of the worst defenses in the league, I do not believe it will be enough to take us over the total by itself. We should expect a one-sided low-scoring game.
