Houston Texans vs Los Angeles Chargers Picks and Prediction for Sunday November 8 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 11/03/2026, 01:30 PM ET

Houston heads to California on Sunday for a 4:05 PM ET game against the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. CBS has the broadcast, and the Texans are favored by 4.5 points, with the total sitting at 40.5. That’s a pretty low number, but take one look at the Chargers’ offense and you’ll understand it. Los Angeles still hasn’t won a game, and Houston hasn’t exactly been lighting up the scoreboard, either. This might not be the prettiest game on Sunday’s schedule. Houston Texans Need to Take Advantage of This Matchup

Houston is 2-5 and coming off its bye week. The Texans lost 27-21 to the Giants in overtime before the break, which was a pretty disappointing result considering they were favored by 10 points. Houston had finally started to turn things around with consecutive victories, then went right back to making mistakes against a team it should have beaten.

That’s what bothers me about the Texans. They’ve got enough talent to be better than 2-5, but they haven’t been consistent enough to trust. The offense can move the ball, but finishing drives has been a problem. Against the Chargers, Houston doesn’t need to get into a scoring contest. It needs to avoid turnovers, establish the run, and make Los Angeles prove it can score.

The extra week of preparation should help. Houston has had time to work on some of the problems that showed up against New York, and now it gets a Chargers team that’s struggling badly. But I’d still like to see the Texans put together a complete game before giving them too much credit. They’ve been favored before and found ways to lose.

Los Angeles Chargers Are Running Out of Answers

The Chargers are 0-7 after losing 24-9 to the Rams on Sunday. Nine points, all on field goals. That’s a pretty rough afternoon, especially when you’re playing in your own stadium. Los Angeles was only down 10-9 at halftime, so the game was there for the taking. Then the Chargers went scoreless in the second half.

And that’s the problem with this team. The defense can keep things respectable for a while, but the offense hasn’t been doing enough to win. Los Angeles also lost 22-6 to Kansas City in Week 6. That’s 15 points over those two games, and you’re not beating many NFL teams with that kind of production.

I will say this for the Chargers. They’re at home, and Houston hasn’t been particularly impressive. If Los Angeles can get its running game going and avoid putting everything on the passing attack, it might be able to hang around. But the Chargers have to start finishing drives. Settling for field goals is one thing. Going an entire half without scoring is another.

Houston Texans vs Los Angeles Chargers Picks and Prediction

Spread Pick: Houston Texans -4.5

I’m laying the 4.5 with Houston. I know the Texans are 2-5, and that’s not exactly the kind of record that makes you want to rush to the betting window. But the Chargers are winless, and their offense has been miserable. Los Angeles scored nine points against the Rams and six against Kansas City. Houston doesn’t need to be spectacular to cover this number. It just needs to get into the low 20s and make the Chargers chase the game. The bye week helps, too. Give me the Texans to win by at least a touchdown.

Total Pick: Under 40.5

Give me the under 40.5. Normally, I’d be a little nervous taking an under this low, but I keep coming back to the Chargers’ offense. Fifteen points over their last two games against the Rams and Chiefs isn’t much to work with. Houston has also had trouble finishing drives, so I don’t expect the Texans to put up 35. This looks like a game where both teams spend plenty of time trying to establish the run and avoid mistakes. The danger is a defensive touchdown or a couple of short fields. Otherwise, I can see something like 23-13, and that stays under.

Final Picks: Houston Texans -4.5 | Under 40.5
