49ers vs. Rams predictions

In the first game of the 2025 NFL Season, a compelling matchup between playoff teams from last season looms as the Houston Texans head to SoFi Stadium for Week 1 action against the Los Angeles Rams in our Texans vs. Rams prediction. Both teams saw some significant changes from last season, so let’s take a closer look at this game. Stay ahead of the sticks with NFL predictions for the Houston Texans vs the Los Angeles Rams.

Texans Looking to Step Up

The Houston Texans are looking to step up after seeing quarterback C.J. Stroud take a step back statistically last season.

The offense was able to make some changes as they traded away offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil after seeing Stroud have trouble staying upright last season. The wide receiver room looks a bit different as well as they drafted rookie Jayden Higgins in the second round and Jaylin Noel in the third round. They also traded for Christian Kirk, but he is on the injury report.

The defense has been able to step up and have one of the top pass defenses in the sport heading into the season. They added strong safety CJ Gardner-Johnson to help as their secondary has been incredibly well. With the team looking to bolster its roster, it can be in a good position to compete for the AFC South crown once again.

Injury Report for Houston

  • Wide receiver Christian Kirk: Hamstring (Questionable)
  • Wide receiver Braxton Berrios: Hamstring (Questionable)
  • Offensive guard Ed Ingram: Abdomen (Questionable)
  • Offensive tackle Blake Fisher: Ankle (Questionable)
  • Defensive end Denico Autry: Knee (OUT)
  • Defensive tackle Kurt Hinish: Undisclosed (OUT)
  • Wide receiver Tank Dell: Knee (OUT)

Rams Looking to Continue Improving

The Los Angeles Rams have a veteran roster and should be able to step up as they look to improve with a veteran roster.

The Rams have a significant 1-2 punch out wide as they signed veteran Davante Adams to pair with Puka Nacua. That is with a veteran quarterback in Matthew Stafford, but he has suffered a back injury that has sidelined him for most of training camp. He will be ready to go for Game 1, but whether he can play 17 games is another story.

The defense is expected to take a massive step up as they expect some young talent to continue improving this season. With fifth-round rookie Ty Hamilton on the defensive line and third-round rookie Josaiah Stewart as an outside linebacker, this is going to help guys like Braden Fiske and Jared Verse step up even more.

Injury Report for Los Angeles

  • Cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon: Knee (Questionable)

Texans vs. Rams Pick

Spread Pick for Houston Texans vs. LA Rams

  • Los Angeles Rams -165 (4 units)

The Houston Texans saw some significant players on their roster no longer be on the team from last season, while the Los Angeles Rams bolstered their roster this offseason. Matthew Stafford should be able to play well and having Davante Adams and Puka Nacua going up against Derek Stingley Jr and Kamari Lassiter seems to be a slightly better advantage for Los Angeles. The Rams are going to be the better team and Sean McVay is the better coach, so take the Los Angeles Rams to secure the victory.

  • Over 43.5 (4 units)

C.J. Stroud and Matthew Stafford are going to be able to play well under center. These teams are going to be able to move the ball down the field so they can put points on the board. The running game should be better with Nick Chubb for the Texans while Kyren Williams is going to create an attack to balance out the passing attack. All in all, go with over 43.5 total points to hit here.
