The Las Vegas Raiders will host the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 9, and we'll preview the lines and odds in our Jaguars vs. Raiders prediction. Both teams are coming off a bye in Week 8–the Jaguars lost to the Rams at Wembley in Week 7, while the Raiders were shut out on the road by the Chiefs. Kickoff is set for 4:05 PM ET on Sunday, November 2.

Will Jaguars get right after timely bye week?

Things started going bad for the Jacksonville Jaguars immediately in London, where they lost 35-7 to the Los Angeles Rams. Trevor Lawrence was sacked seven times in the game, the first of which came on the team's first play from scrimmage at the hands of Jared Verse. It marked the second straight game Lawrence had been sacked seven times–after taking only six sacks through the team's first five games, he's now ranked sixth among NFL quarterbacks with 20 sacks taken this season. He's avoided throwing an interception through the team's last two games after throwing five through the first five weeks, but it's hard to laud that too heavily when looking at the team's overall offensive production. The Jaguars have dropped two straight games after a 4-1 start, posting their two lowest point totals on offense, and they lost by 28 points against the Rams after only dropping their first two losses by one-score margins.

Jacksonville is second in the AFC South standings after the bye week at 4-3, but they're the only team in the NFL with a winning record and a negative point differential (-9). They're 2.5 games behind the 7-1 Indianapolis Colts, who look ready to run away with the division–if not the entire conference. The Texans, whom the Jags beat 17-10 in Week 3, are a game back at 3-4 but have scored seven more points than the Jags while allowing a league-low 103 points.

Travis Hunter, the team's highly drafted rookie receiver/cornerback, was sent to injured reserve on Friday with a knee injury. The timing couldn't be worse because he just had a career game at receiver with eight catches for 101 yards and a TD. He joins tight end Brenton Strange, who ranks fourth on the team with 204 receiving yards despite not having played since their 31-28 Monday Night Football win over the Chiefs nearly a month ago. Fellow receivers Brian Thomas Jr. and Dyami Brown are both on the injury report with shoulder issues, as is Tim Patrick with a groin injury, who is out along with TE Quintin Morris (groin). Devin Lloyd (scalf), Jourdan Lewis (neck), and Eric Murray (neck) are all on the report representing the Jaguars' starting defense.

Raiders coming off bye after agonizing 31-0 loss in Week 7

The Las Vegas Raiders enter Week 9 at 2-5, three games behind the Chiefs and Chargers in the otherwise highly competitive AFC West. They own the honor of having beaten the currently 6-2 Patriots in Week 1, but their record is otherwise buoyed only by a 20-10 win over the 1-7 Tennessee Titans. The Titans rank 31st among NFL teams with only 110 total points scored heading into Week 9. The Raiders are 32nd with 103–none of which were scored when they last played in Week 7, losing 31-0 to the Chiefs.

It's possible that the shutout loss, on its own, doesn't fully reflect how moribund the Raiders looked in Kansas City. The offense gained 95 yards and only three first downs, lost 58 yards on eight penalties, didn't convert on any of seven third-down attempts, and never made it to the red zone. Geno Smith completed 10 of 16 passes for 67 yards–if nothing else, Raiders fans can celebrate that he didn't throw an interception after throwing six through the team's previous three games. He's now only second in the NFL with ten interceptions thrown this season and tied for seventh with 19 sacks taken. Tre Tucker accounted for nearly all of the team's passing production, hauling in five of six targets for 33 yards. The ground game did nothing, gaining only 25 yards across 11 rushing attempts. Kansas City dominated time of possession (holding the ball for just over 42 minutes), but it's hard to blame the Raiders' offensive woes on a lack of opportunities, given what they did with the plays they had.

All-Pro TE Brock Bowers was notably absent from the lineup against the Chiefs. He's missed three games with a knee injury, but he was a full participant in practice this week and should return to the field. WR Jakobi Meyers didn't play against the Chiefs either and has similarly been a full practice participant. DE Maxx Crosby (back) appears on the report as well after not participating in Wednesday's practice and being limited on Thursday.

Jaguars vs. Raiders Pick

Spread Pick for Jaguars vs. Raiders

  • Jaguars -2.5 (-115) (4 Units)

The Jags' last two games were a rough product, but beating the Raiders by only three points–with how the Raiders have looked most recently–is a low bar to clear. Jacksonville thrived earlier in the season when their defense was performing well and consistently taking the ball away to buy their offense extra possessions. If that unit shows up in Las Vegas, they could capitalize on one of the most turnover-prone units in the league. These teams have both covered in every game they've won this season and failed to cover in their losses; I don't expect that to change here.

Over/Under Pick for Jaguars vs. Raiders

  • Under 44.0 (-110) (4 Units)

The Team Total Under is 5-2 in Raiders games this season and 3-0 in their last three games. It's also 4-3 in Jaguars games and 2-0 in their last two games. The Raiders have peaked at 24 points this season, and they've fallen short of scoring even 10 points on three occasions–and, notably, didn't so much as threaten to score in their most recent 31-0 shutout loss. The Jaguars scored a combined 19 points in their last two games. If this game goes over 44 points, one or both of these teams moved mountains during the bye week.
