The Rams are traveling to Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina for their 13 matchup against the Panthers; keep reading for our Rams versus Panthers prediction. Rams Looking To Retain Top Spot In NFC

Los Angeles is heading on the road after their win last week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a final score of 34-7. This is the sixth win in a row for the Rams as they continue to hold the top spot of the NFC West and the NFC. While they do hold the top of their division they are only one loss away from being tied with the Seahawks.

The defense for the Rams this season has been elite as they lead the league in points allowed, allowing an average of only 16.3 points per game. This has been achieved thanks to their allowance of so few yards in the air but especially on the ground, with the Rams sitting ninth in rushing yards allowed. The defensive line has been reliable in stopping the run but also putting consistent pressure on the quarterback, which is apparent in their amount of sacks this season, in which they rank tenth. Linebacker Byron Young has been especially helpful with this job as he leads the team in sacks, with nine sacks across his 11 games played.

While the defense remains good on their own, the offense continues to drive down field and generate points, as the Rams sit seventh in the league in scoring. Their offense is led by quarterback Matthew Stafford who has averaged 257.3 yards per game and has 30 touchdowns across 11 games. Stafford has done a great job driving down field with this offense and it shows, with the Rams sitting tenth in the league in passing yards and seventh in passing yards per reception at 7.6.

Panthers Aim For Top Of Division

Carolina is returning home after their loss last week to the 49ers with a final score of 20-9. This loss would put them behind the Buccaneers by one game for the top of the NFC South. Carolina is within striking distance for a playoff spot and have two more games this season against the Buccaneers to overtake them for the top of their division.

The Panthers have relied on their running game to generate offense as their pass game continues to struggle. Carolina is 28th in points this season despite sitting seventh in total plays. This is largely due to inconsistencies in the red zone and a lack of drives due to their run game chewing a large portion of clock. Carolina is ninth in the league in rushing yards and is 13th in yards per carry at 4.4. Running Back Rico Dowdle currently leads the team in rushing yards, averaging 72.6 yards per game. Dowdle has five touchdowns on the ground across his 12 games played.

The defense has not been as reliable as their run game, with the Panthers ranking 18th in points allowed and 24th in total yards. The largest weakness for the Panthers is their run defense, which is 20th in rushing yards allowed and yards per carry at 4.3. The defensive line has looked weak this season and has not been able to pressure the opposing quarterback with the Panthers ranking the second-worst team in sacks this season.

Injuries:

  • Cherelus LB Questionable - Concussion
  • Mays C Questionable - Ankle
  • Horn CB Questionable - Concussion
  • Rozeboom LB Questionable - Hip
  • Zavala OG Questionable - Calf

Rams vs Panthers Picks and Prediction

Spread Pick for Rams vs Panthers

  • Rams -10.5 (-106) (5 units)

The Rams are 4-0 against the spread as favorites on the road this season. The Panthers have relied heavily on their run game to generate points this season as well as control the flow of the game. Unfortunately they are up against one of the better defenses in the league when it comes to stopping the run. Without a run game, I do not expect many points from the Panthers. I have to side with the road team to cover their spread in this one-sided game.

Over/Under Pick for Rams versus Panthers

  • Under 45.5 (-115) (4 units)

The Rams have an over/under record of 4-7 this season. The Panthers have an over/under record of 2-6 in their last eight games versus the Rams, dating back to 2004. The Panthers already struggle in producing points and without their run game, I do not expect much of them. This total is largely going to be controlled by the Rams but if the Panthers play to their playstyle, a lot of time is going to be taken off the clock from their rushing attempts. A one sided game with both teams burning the clock with their run game, looks to be a low scoring affair.
