Can the Chargers build on a massive Week One victory?
The Los Angeles Chargers have underperformed for several years now, but with the building blocks of success in place, this is a team that appears ready to take off following a Week One victory over Kansas City from Brazil, 27-21. Last season, the Chargers went 6-3 in games played on the road, and with a 2-0 record against the Raiders in that time, they come into this matchup ready to get off to a 2-0 start in the 2025 regular season.
In 2024, the Chargers ranked top-10 in the NFL in points scored per game, and with a defense that also ranked top-10 in yards allowed as a team, they've found the balance that may allow them to be successful in a loaded AFC West in 2025. Last time out for the Chargers was a big Week One win over the AFC West rival Kansas City Chiefs, with a 3/0 TD/INT ratio from Justin Herbert, who had a 132 passer rating on the day, leading the way as the defense did just enough down the stretch for them to come away winners 27-21.
The Chargers are led on defense by S Derwin James, who helped hold KC All-Pro TE Travis Kelce to just two catches last week. However, the Chargers will be without another defensive stalwart in LB Denzel Perryman (ankle), while LB Del'Shawn Phillips (toe), is questionable.

Can the Raiders surprise the NFL and start 2-0 in 2025?
The Las Vegas Raiders transformed their team in the off-season, and with the addition of Geno Smith, they're going to be a team that's tough to play every single week, even in the talented AFC West. Last season was a tough one for the Raiders, as they went 4-13 on the season, including a 2-6 record at home, but with an upset win on the road to start 2025, the optimism is building around this organization.
Despite the lack of success, the Raiders' defense ranked 16th in the league in yards allowed per game, with the addition of Smith bringing hope that they can improve an offense that ranked bottom 10 in the NFL throughout the 2024 campaign. Last time out for the Raiders was a massive road win over the New England Patriots, with Smith throwing for 362 yards on the day as the defense forced one turnover and limited their opponents to 330 yards as they came away winners 20-13. Rookie running back Ashton Jeanty was held to 38 yards on 19 carries against the Pats, but did score a touchdown in his debut.
TE Brock Bowers, who caught five passes last week for 103 yards against the Patriots, missed most of practice this week with a sprained knee but is expected to play. Linebacker Elandon Roberts (elbow) missed practice on Thursday and is questionable.
Los Angeles Chargers vs. Las Vegas Raiders pick
Spread Pick for Chargers vs. Raiders
- Los Angeles -3.5 (4 units)
After a surprising Week One, anything could happen when these two AFC West rivals collide, but with the Chargers going 6-4 against the Raiders in their last 10 head-to-head matchups, including a perfect 2-0 record against them last season.
In those two games in 2025, the Chargers outscored the Raiders by 26 points in that time, and after Justin Herbert's hot start to the season in Week One, look for Los Angeles to start 2-0 in what could be a big season for this team.
Over/Under pick for Chargers vs. Las Vegas Raiders
- Over 45 (4 units)
When these two teams matched up a year ago, the Chargers put up scores of 34 and 22, and with the Raiders' improved offensive game under Geno Smith, expect this one to devolve into a shootout between fierce AFC West rivals.
For the Chargers, the over sits at 8-2 in their last 10 overall games, with 27 points a game scored in their last nine regular-season games, and for the Raiders, the over comes in at 5-5 in their past 10, with 25 or more points allowed in six of those 10 games.
Keep it simple, take the over.
