Minnesota Vikings vs Detroit Lions Picks and Prediction for Sunday November 1 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 10/31/2026, 12:31 PM ET

Minnesota is 6-0. Hasn’t lost a game all season.

Detroit is favored by three and a half.

Now, I understand why. The Lions are scoring almost 31 points a game, and their offense has been one of the best in football. But I’m not giving Detroit an automatic win just because it has the prettier offensive numbers. Minnesota has been winning games with defense, and that’s a pretty good way to travel.

The Vikings visit Ford Field in Detroit on Sunday, November 1, with kickoff at 1 PM ET on FOX. The Lions are favored by 3.5 points, and the total is 45.5. Ford Field is indoors, so weather isn’t going to be part of the equation. This one comes down to whether Minnesota can slow down Detroit’s offense. Minnesota Vikings Keep Finding Ways to Win

Minnesota is 6-0. That’s the first thing you need to know, and I’m not going to apologize for putting some weight on it. Winning six straight NFL games isn’t easy, even if you don’t look spectacular doing it. The Vikings have been controlling possession, forcing turnovers and making opponents work for every point.

Minnesota averages only 20.8 points and 281.7 yards per game. Those are not great offensive numbers. But look at the other side. The Vikings have 21 sacks, seven interceptions and a league-best plus-seven turnover differential. They also hold the ball for 32 minutes and 43 seconds per game, third-best in the league. That’s how they’re winning. They’re not asking the offense to score 35. They’re making sure the other team doesn’t get enough clean possessions to do it.

Kyler Murray has thrown for 812 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions in his appearances. Aaron Jones has rushed for 436 yards, while Justin Jefferson has 302 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Minnesota needs more from its passing game, no question. But the defense has been doing the heavy lifting. Jay Ward is questionable with a knee injury, although the Vikings otherwise have a relatively clean injury report. That matters against a Detroit team that can stretch a defense.

Detroit Lions Have the Better Offense

Detroit is 4-2, and the Lions are scoring 30.7 points a game. That’s second in the NFL. They’ve also been gaining 397.3 yards per game, another top-two mark. Those are serious numbers. Minnesota hasn’t faced many offenses capable of putting this much pressure on a defense.

The Lions have 21 sacks of their own, so the defensive front can cause problems. But the turnover numbers favor Minnesota. Detroit is plus-three, which is good, just not as good as the Vikings. The Lions have been more explosive offensively, and that’s their biggest advantage. If they can score early and make Minnesota chase points, the Vikings could find themselves in unfamiliar territory.

Jared Goff has thrown for 1,788 yards with 14 touchdowns and no interceptions. That’s excellent. Jahmyr Gibbs has rushed for 620 yards and seven touchdowns, while Amon-Ra St. Brown has 525 receiving yards and five scores. Those three give Detroit a dangerous combination of passing and rushing. Kerby Joseph is out with a knee injury, and Roger McCreary is questionable with a foot problem. Those secondary concerns matter against Jefferson, even if Minnesota hasn’t been throwing the ball especially well.

Minnesota Vikings vs Detroit Lions Picks and Prediction

Minnesota Vikings +3.5

I’m taking Minnesota plus 3.5. Detroit has the better offense, and Goff has been terrific. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Lions win. But Minnesota is unbeaten, leads the league in turnover differential and has been getting pressure on quarterbacks. That’s the kind of defense that can keep a game close even when the offense isn’t spectacular. The Vikings don’t need to win a shootout. They need to make Detroit earn every possession. I’ll take the points and wouldn’t rule out Minnesota winning outright.

Under 45.5 Points

Give me Under 45.5. Detroit has been scoring plenty, so I know the danger. Gibbs can break a long run, and Goff has been protecting the football extremely well. But Minnesota’s offense averages only 20.8 points, and the Vikings have been controlling the clock. That’s not a recipe for a lot of possessions. If Minnesota can keep Detroit in the low-to-mid 20s, this has a good chance of staying Under. Something like Minnesota 23-21 is what I’m thinking.

Final Picks: Minnesota Vikings +3.5 and Under 45.5 Points
