New Orleans Saints at Miami Dolphins Picks and Prediction

We have a Week 13 game at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, for our Saints vs. Dolphins prediction. The Saints are struggling as they are fourth in the NFC South with a 2-9 record and are coming off a 24-10 home loss on Sunday to the Atlanta Falcons. The Dolphins are third in the AFC East with a 4-7 record as they are riding a two-game winning streak as they are coming off a 16-13 neutral-site overtime win over the Washington Commanders on Nov. 16. Game plan ready — NFL picks for New Orleans Saints at Miami Dolphins with the factors that move results.

Saints Looking to Figure Things Out

The New Orleans Saints are coming off a tough 24-10 home loss last week against the Atlanta Falcons. The offense was able to score 10 points on 293 total yards (214 passing, 79 rushing) in the game. Quarterback Tyler Shough completed 30-of-43 passes for 243 yards with an interception as well as seven carries for 22 yards (3.1 yards per attempt). New Orleans did turn the ball over twice (one fumble lost, one interception) and failed to record a touchdown on all three of their red zone drives. The Saints could not run the football too well as they averaged 2.8 yards per carry over the course of the game while seeing running back Alvin Kamara leave the game early with an injury.

The defense of the Saints allowed 24 points on 302 yards (181 passing, 121 rushing). New Orleans allowed Atlanta to go 3-for-12 on third downs throughout the game as well and a big reason was the fact the Panthers were able to run for 4.2 yards per carry. Their defense forced a turnover (one interception) and limited Atlanta to 13 total first downs throughout the 60 minutes.

The Saints are putting up a terrible 15.0 points per game this season, which places them tied for 31st in the sport. Quarterback Tyler Shough has completed 81-of-126 (64.3%) of his passes for 829 yards with three passing touchdowns and three interceptions as well as 15 rushing attempts for 33 yards (2.2 yards per carry) without any touchdowns. The defense needs to show some life as they are 22nd in the NFL with 24.9 points allowed per game.

Dolphins Looking for Late-Season Momentum

The Miami Dolphins had their bye week last week, but are coming off a tough 16-13 overtime neutral site win in Week 11 against the Washington Commanders. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was limited in the game as he completed 14-of-20 passes for 171 yards without a touchdown or interception. The team scored 16 points on 311 total yards (142 passing, 169 rushing). The team could sustain drives at a decent level as they were 3-for-9 on third downs. A big reason why was their ability to run the football at an incredible level, averaging 5.5 yards per rushing attempt.

The defense of the Dolphins allowed the Washington Commanders to record 13 points on 379 total yards (207 passing, 172 rushing). The defense struggled a bit as they allowed Washington to 6-for-13 in the red zone and only allowed 5.2 yards per rushing attempt throughout the game. The defense was able to force a pair of turnovers with an interception and a fumble recovery.

The Miami Dolphins have been a lesser offensive team as they rank 24th in the NFL with 20.5 points per game. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been struggling under center as he is completing 213-of-312 (68.3%) of his passes for 2,123 yards with 17 passing touchdowns to 13 interceptions. Their defense is looking to get better than average as they are 21st in the sport with 24.5 opposing points per game.

Injury Report for Miami

  • CB Rasul Douglas (foot) is questioable.
  • Defensive tackle Benito Jones: Ankle (Questionable)

New Orleans Saints vs. Miami Dolphins Pick

Spread Pick for Saints vs. Dolphins

  • Miami Dolphins -6 (4 units)

The Miami Dolphins have been playing a lot better lately and are coming off extended rest, while the New Orleans Saints are having their best offensive player potentially injured for this game and struggling to get going. There is a bit of a difference between these defenses in the last handful of games as the Saints are allowing 22.8 points in their last five games while the Dolphins are giving up 16.0 points in their previous four games. The Saints are 3-8 ATS while the Dolphins have a 6-5 ATS this season, so go with the Miami Dolphins to cover the spread at home with extended rest here.

Over/Under Pick for New Orleans Saints at Miami Dolphins

  • OVER 41.5 (5 units)

Even when the offenses are not doing too well, these defenses are struggling this season, which means points are going to be scored. When looking at how these offenses are performing over the course of the season, they are doing well at getting first downs. Miami is 48-of-127 (37.8%) on third downs and 9-of-18 (50.0%) on fourth downs while New Orleans is 55-of-145 (37.93%) on third downs and 9-of-25 (36.0%) on fourth downs this year. All in all, go with OVER 41.5 POINTS in this game as the better bet.
