Saints fading fast
The 2025 season is going nowhere fast for the New Orleans Saints (1-5) under new head coach Kellen Moore. The Saints have managed a single win in six outings so far, most recently dropping last Sunday's game 25-19 to the Patriots to lose the momentum gained after beating the Giants in New Orleans. The team sits at rock bottom of the NFC standings and already looks set for a fifth straight year without postseason football.
The Saints' biggest problem has been putting points on the board. They rank 28th in the NFL with an average of 18.5 ppg and have topped 25 points just once so far in 2025. Spencer Rattler has a respectable completion rate of 68.5%, but to little impact: he ranks 29th among NFL QBs with 6.0 yds per pass. New Orleans has found more success on the ground, where they average 109.5 yards per rush, led by Alvin Kamara, who leads the team with 314 rushing yards (24th in NFL).

Kamara (ankle) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice after sitting out Wednesday. John Ridgeway III is nearing a return: the DT, currently on Injured Reserve with a shoulder issue, was a full participant on Wednesday and Thursday.
Bears on a roll
The Chicago Bears (3-2) appeared to be heading for another disappointing season when they kicked off 2025 with back-to-back losses. Things are looking up at Soldier Field, though, thanks to three straight wins, which have dragged the Bears back above .500. Chicago last finished with a positive W/L record in 2018 and last went to the postseason in 2020. This current run kicked off with a dominant 31-14 win over Dallas before the Bears recorded consecutive 25-24 wins on the road against the Raiders and Commanders. The latter was decided by a last-gasp field goal from Jake Moody, who slotted 4-5 attempts in his first game since being activated from the Bears' practice squad after being waived by the 49ers.
Caleb Williams has also come up big for Chicago in this win streak. The second-year QB is averaging 252 passing yards over the last three games while racking up six touchdowns and a single interception. The Bears' rejuvenated O-line is doing its part. After a rough start to the year, where Williams was sacked six times in two games for a loss of 41 yards, they have limited opponents to four sacks (26 yards) in the last three games.
Chicago leads the NFL with an average of 2.4 takeaways per game. That's important considering the Bears are allowing 156.4 yards per game on the ground to rank 31st in the league.
On the injury front, defensive tackle Grady Jarrett (knee) and kicker Cairo Santos (thigh) remain grounded, meaning Moody should get another chance Sunday. RB D'Andre Swift (groin) landed on the injury report Thursday as a limited participant in practice.
Saints vs. Bears Pick
Spread Pick for Saints vs. Bears
- Bears -4.5 (five units)
Tough defense has been the key for Chicago during this win streak and that should help the Bears get out in front and cover against one of the NFL's weaker offenses. The Bears have run up 11 takeaways in their last three games, more than any other team in that period, while also going 3-0 ATS in that run. The Saints are 1-4 ATS playing as underdogs this year. They are also hampered by indiscipline, giving up 8.3 penalties per game (26th in the NFL). The Bears have often been their own worst enemies in recent years, but Williams should lead them to a comfortable win.
Take the Bears.
Over/Under Pick for Saints vs. Bears
- Over 46.5 (four units)
The Bears are finding their feet offensively after a slow start, with Williams growing into the starting QB role in his second season. He should find space to run up a big score against a Saints defense that struggles on the road, giving up 37.5 ppg in their two away games in 2025. Chicago ranks 11th in the NFL with 227.8 passing yards per game. They have gone 3-1-1 on the over so far this year, while New Orleans is 2-0 on the over playing on the road.
Take the over.
