49ers vs Seahawks picks and predictions

On Sunday afternoon in the Great Northwest at Lumen Field, the Seattle Seahawks (1-1) play host to the New Orleans Saints (2-0). The Seahawks are coming off an impressive win in their last game, while the Saints have lost two close games in a row. In this in-depth New Orleans Saints vs. Seattle Seahawks prediction, you can find the full score information, as well as other free NFL picks.

The Seahawks come into this NFC contest as the favorite, posted at -7-5, with the total sitting at 41.5.

Close But No Cigar, Again

In their last game, the Saints were at home and fell 26-21 to the San Francisco 49ers. They lost their first game by seven points to Arizona at home. In the loss to the 49ers, they were outgained 344 yards to 307 yards and were only 4-11 on third down. Spencer Rattler was pretty solid, going 25/34 for 207 yards with three TDs and no picks. However, he is 0-8 as a starter in the NFL. Alvin Kamara rushed for 99 yards with a TD, and Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed combined for 106 receiving yards. New Orleans failed to cover as a 3-point underdog and has failed to cover the spread in both games this season.

  • These teams have not faced each other since the 2022 season.
  • Rattler (421 yards 3 TD 0 INT) ranks in the middle of the pack in QBR (15th) and has been sacked four times in the two games.
  • Kamara (144 yards 1 TD) played well in the last game but has not gotten much from the pass game out of the backfield, with eight catches for 33 yards.
  • The Saints have three players with at least 85 receiving yards.
  • New Orleans will be up against Seattle's defense that ranks 22nd in the league against the pass and 11th against the run after two games.

In terms of injuries, DE Chase Young (calf), RT Trevor Penning (toe) and LT Taliese Fuaga are all questionable.

Seahawks Much Better on the Offensive Side of the Ball

After only scoring 13 points in losing their season opener (17-13 loss to SF), the Seahawks were better on the offensive side of the ball in their last game in a 31-17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. They were gifted a touchdown by the Steelers on a kickoff and outgained them 395 yards to 267 yards. While they committed two turnovers, they forced two as well. Sam Darnold was responsible for the two turnovers, with two interceptions, but also passed for 295 yards and two touchdowns. Kenneth Walker III rushed for 108 yards with a TD, averaging a legit 8.1 yards per carry, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba led the way with 103 receiving yards. Seattle covered as a 4-point underdog after failing to cover in the opener.

  • Darnold (445 yards 2 TD 2 INT) ranks 21st in the league in QBR and has only been sacked three times.
  • Walker III (125 yards 1 TD) was much better in the last game than the first one, where he only rushed for 20 yards on 10 carries.
  • Emerging star Smith-Njigba (227 yards 0 TD) has eclipsed 100 receiving yards in each of the first two games.
  • Seattle will be up against a New Orleans defense that ranks 13th in the NFL against the pass and 17th against the run.

On the injury front, RB Zach Charbonnet (foot), CB Devon Witherspoon (knee), S Julian Love (hamstring) and S Nick Emmanwon are questionable. RG Christian Haynes (pec) is on the IR with a designation to return on Oct. 5.

New Orleans Saints vs. Seattle Seahawks Pick

Spread Pick for New Orleans Saints vs. Seattle Seahawks

  • Seahawks -7.5 (4 Units)

The Seahawks are coming off their first win of the season, and the Saints are still looking for their first W. Many thought the Saints would be in line for the top pick in the draft, and while they have failed to cover in both games, each was fairly close. Seattle finally got some offense in their last game, and Darnold played pretty well, even with two interceptions. The Seahawks’ defense was solid in the last game and look for that again at home. The Saints have very little firepower on offense and will struggle in one of the toughest places to play in the NFL. Regarding the New Orleans Saints vs. Seattle Seahawks prediction, the Seahawks will build on last week’s win, playing well on both sides of the ball, winning and covering, and sending the Saints to an 0-3 start.

Over/Under Pick for New Orleans Saints vs. Seattle Seahawks

  • Over 41.5

The total went Over for both of these teams in their last games and, that is the pick I am leaning on in this game. The Seahawks had nearly 400 yards of total offense in their last game, and Sam Darnold passed for nearly 300 yards. He will have another good game, as the Saints’ pass defense was not great in their last game and they were facing a backup QB. The Saints will put up some points against a solid defense. The Over is the pick since the Seahawks will have a good scoring game, just like last week.
