New York Has a Chance to Prove Week 1 Wasn't a Fluke

The Giants opened the season with an important 28-20 victory over Dallas, immediately giving New York a divisional win and a successful start to the new season. The Giants controlled significant portions of the game and prevented Dallas from having many offensive possessions in the second half.

That ability to control the football could be critical Monday night. New York doesn't want Los Angeles developing offensive rhythm, particularly with the Rams receiving extra preparation time following their Thursday opener. Long possessions and a productive rushing attack would allow the Giants to shorten the game and keep this within one score.

New York also enters with the psychological advantage of already proving it can win a significant primetime matchup. The challenge is repeating that performance on the opposite side of the country against a Rams team facing considerable pressure to avoid an 0-2 start.

Los Angeles Gets Extra Time to Correct Its Problems

The Rams' 27-7 loss to San Francisco was one of Week 1's most surprising results. Los Angeles struggled to generate consistent offense and managed only one touchdown despite entering the season with high expectations. That performance understandably creates hesitation about laying nearly a touchdown.

There are reasons to expect a substantial improvement. Los Angeles played its opener on Thursday, giving the Rams several additional days to prepare for New York. The Rams also return home after their international opener, providing their coaching staff extra time to diagnose what went wrong offensively and make adjustments.

Los Angeles also shouldn't be judged entirely by one poor offensive performance. San Francisco presented a difficult opening matchup, while the Giants' defense benefited from New York controlling possession against Dallas. The Rams should have more opportunities to establish offensive rhythm Monday night, especially if they can force New York away from its preferred rushing approach.

New York Giants vs Los Angeles Rams Picks and Prediction

Pick: Los Angeles Rams -6.5

Take the Los Angeles Rams -6.5. This is a classic early-season buy-low opportunity. Los Angeles looked terrible in Week 1, while New York is receiving considerable attention after beating Dallas. That combination helps keep the Rams below the key number of seven despite playing at home with extra preparation time. New York is capable of making this competitive, but Los Angeles should produce a significantly better offensive performance. At -6.5, I want the Rams before the number potentially reaches seven.

Pick: Over 48.5

Take the Over 48.5. Los Angeles scored only seven points in Week 1, but I'm expecting a substantial offensive rebound after the extended preparation period. New York already demonstrated enough offensive capability to score 28 against Dallas, and the Giants may have to increase their tempo if the Rams establish an early lead. This total requires considerably more offense than Los Angeles produced against San Francisco, but the matchup and extra preparation create a good environment for a rebound. A projected final around Los Angeles 31, New York 21 gives us the Rams cover and pushes the game above the total.

Final Picks: Los Angeles Rams -6.5 and Over 48.5
