Jets Have Issues on Both Sides of the Ball
The Jets have had issues on both sides of the ball, as they only rank 28th in opponents’ ppg, and while they scored 32 points in the opener, they have not gotten to the end zone until the fourth quarter of the last two games. In their last game, they were on the road and lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 29-27 where they were outgained 347 yards to 267 yards and committed two turnovers while not forcing any. Tyrod Taylor started for the injured Justin Fields and passed for 197 yards with two TD but his one INT was a pick-6. Taylor also led the team with 48 rushing yards and Garrett Wilson led the way with 84 yards and a TD. New York covered as a 6.5-point underdog and has covered the spread in two of their three games.

- Fields (245 yards 1 TD 0 INT) returned to practice Thursday and will start on Sunday if medically cleared.
- While the Jets rank tied for ninth in the league in rushing yards per game, leading rusher Breece Hall (157 yards) has only totaled 50 yards in the last two games and the second and third leading rushers are Fields and Taylor.
- Wilson (229 yards 2 TD) is the only player with over 78 receiving yards.
- New York will be facing a Miami defense that ranks 21st in the league in defending the pass and 28th in defending the run.
Besides Fields being questionable, several others as well, including the three players in the secondary of S Tony Adams, CB Jarvis Brownlee Jr., and CB Sauce Gardner.

Tua Taking Heat, but the Defense Hasn’t Helped
Tua Tagovailoa has gotten most of the heat for Miami’s bad start, and while he has been less than stellar, and has a massive contract, the Dolphins' defense has had their part ranking dead last in points allowed. In their last game, they were on the road in a 31-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills, where they were outgained 360 yards to 276 yards. Tagovailoa's fourth-quarter INT and a roughing-the-punter penalty killed their chances. Miami did cover as an 11-point underdog after failing to cover the spread in its first two games.
- The Dolphins only rank 21st in the NFL in passing yards per game and tied for 26th in rushing yards per game.
- Tua (575 yards 5 TD 4 INT) ranks 29th in the league in QBR and has been sacked eight times this season.
- De'Von Achane (147 yards) is the only player with over 52 rushing yards and had a season-high 62 yards in the last game.
- Tyreek Hill (198 yards, 1 TD) has been in trade rumors and has less than 50 receiving yards in two of the three games.
- Miami will face a Jets defense that ranks 15th against the pass and 23rd against the run.
A couple of CBs are questionable for the Dolphins as is WR Jaylen Waddle, who has a TD in each of the last two games.

New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins Pick
Spread Pick for Jets vs. Dolphins
- Jets +3 (+4 Units)
Both of these teams are winless and have issues on both sides of the ball. Not much was expected of the Jets this season, but the Dolphins had high hopes, which have not turned out well at all. Miami has the league’s worst defense when it comes to opponents’ points per game and they have given up at least 31 points in each of their three games. Regarding the New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins prediction, McDaniel has looked as if he has lost this team, and whoever plays quarterback for the Jets will have a good game, as they will not only cover getting three points but win as well.
Â
Over/Under Pick for Jets vs/ Dolphins
- Under 44.5 runs (+4 Units)Â
The total has gone over for the Dolphins last two games and in two of the three games for the Jets. I am leaning towards that pick in this game, as each team has struggled on D and Miami ranks dead last in the NFL in opponents’ ppg. Tua will take advantage of the struggling and banged-up New York secondary and whoever suits up for the Jets will take advantage of a bad Miami defense. Both teams will move the ball and score, and in a higher-scoring affair in South Beach, the total will go over.
