Rested Eagles ready to keep ball rolling

After a pair of back-to-back losses, the Eagles steadied themselves and rattled off two straight wins, keeping them atop the NFC East. Before the bye week, they had their highest offense output with 38 points as they scored 5 touchdowns in the win over the Giants.

After scoring 17 points in each of their two losses, the Philadelphia offense averaged 33 points per game. This season, they rank 10th in scoring offense, averaging 26 points per game, with 304.4 total yards each week. Through the air, the Eagles average 192.8 yards per game. Jalen Hurts had just 179 passing yards in the win over the Giants but was also 15-20 passing the ball with 4 TDs. This season, the Philly QB has 1,677 passing yards, 15 TDs, 1 INT, 207 rushing yards and 5 rushing TDs. DeVonta Smith has caught 44 of the 55 passes thrown his way for 588 yards and 2 TDs. The Eagles’ rushing attack averaged 111.6 yards behind Saquon Barkley’s 519 yards. Last week, the RB had a season-high 150 rushing yards.

On defense, Philadelphia ranks 19th in scoring defense, giving up 23.1 points per game. Opponents are gaining 336.3 total yards against them. Versus the pass, the Eagles are allowing 215.9 yards and against the run, 120.4 yards per game. They have the seventh fewest sacks, 16, and have intercepted just 5 passes. Two players have over 50 tackles. Zack Baun leads the team with 64 tackles and has 3 sacks, 5 tackles for loss, 5 pass deflections and an interception. Moro Ojomo leads the Eagles with 4 sacks.

Sleeping offense halts Packers’ momentum

The Packers came off of their bye week and won three in a row before Carolina halted a run of four straight games without a loss. Versus the Panthers, the offense was only able to provide a pair of field goals and a fourth-quarter touchdown before the defense allowed a last-second field goal.

Last week’s offensive effort was the second time this season that the Packers scored 13 points or fewer. This is a team averaging 25.8 points per game on the year, the 11th in the NFL. They are eighth in the league in total offense, gaining 360.4 yards each week. Their passing game also ranks eighth, averaging 247.5 yards per game. Jordan Love ranks ninth in the league with 2,071 passing yards, with 13 TDs and 3 INTs. The Packers’ QB was held without a passing TD for the first time all season last weekend, but still tossed for 273 yards. Tight end Tucker Kraft leads the team with 489 receiving yards and 6 TDs on 32 catches. Green Bay’s run game is producing 112.9 yards per game. Josh Jacobs is the main source of ground yardage, with 534 and 10 TDs on 141 carries.

Defensively, Green Bay is allowing 20.8 points per game, the eighth-best mark in the league. Opponents are earning 286.4 yards per game against them, the fifth-best mark in the league. The Pack have the fifth-best run defense, allowing 89.4 yards, and versus the pass, they are giving up 197 yards per game. Their 3 interceptions are tied for fourth fewest in the NFL, but they’ve offset that with 22 sacks. Rashan Gary is tied for fifth in the league with 7.5 sacks. Quay Walker is tied for 15th in the league with 71 tackles.

Eagles vs. Packers Picks

Spread Pick for Eagles vs. Packers

  • Eagles +2.5 (5 units)

These two teams last met in the Wild Card round of last season’s playoffs, with the Eagles using Green Bay as a platform to launch their title run, winning by 12 points at home. The two-loss hump that the defending champs hit at the beginning of October seems like just a blip in the wake of their last two wins. Barkley finally broke out last week, averaging 10.7 yards per carry, and that should frighten any team having to face down Philly the rest of the way. Green Bay does have a strong rushing defense, but they gave up 130 yards to Rico Dowdle last week, so a downhill Barkley should be able to break through as well. The Packers are also banged up, on both sides of the ball. Micah Parsons was again limited in practice this week, and seemingly half of the wide receiver room is on this week’s injury report. Philadelphia is 4-1 SU and ATS in the last five meetings between these teams.

Take the Eagles getting the points.

Over/Under Pick for Eagles vs. Packers

  • Over 45 (5 units)

These two tallied a combined 32 points when they met in the Wild Card, but we can chalk that low score up to the moment. In their regular-season meeting last year, they combined for 63 points and hit the over against a 49.5-point total. I am expecting more of that style of game here. Green Bay desperately wants to make up for their 13-point effort last time out. Love moved the ball well in the game and got the team in position to score, but they just failed to do so. Before last week’s loss, the Packers scored 27 points or more in four straight games. The Eagles had a week to rest after their biggest offensive output of the year, so their skill pieces should be ready to roll. They’ve scored 28 points or more in four of their last six games. The over is 4-3 in the last seven games between these teams.

Take the over.
