Seahawks' offense historically efficient in close Bucs loss
The Seattle Seahawks started slowly against the Bucs last week, entering halftime down 13-7 before both teams took off in the third and fourth quarters. A holding call against rookie guard Gray Zabel derailed the team's opening drive, putting them in 2nd and 18 at the Bucs' 41-yard line two plays before Jason Myers missed a 44-yard field goal. The team's third drive ended when rookie quarterback Jalen Milroe entered the game to run a speed option, then pitched the ball too far behind lead back Kenneth Walker to set up an easy fumble recovery for Bucs safety Tykee Smith. Tampa Bay scored on the ensuing drive to go up 13-0, but quarterback Sam Darnold delivered a well-executed two-minute drill, putting the Seahawks on the board with only six seconds to spare after a touchdown pass to receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Darnold finished the game having completed 28 of 34 passes for 341 yards–good for an 82.35% completion percentage, 10.03 yards per attempt, and four touchdowns. Smith-Njigba caught eight of his nine targets for 132 yards–he enters Week 6 ranked fifth among NFL players in receptions (34), second in yards (534), and first in receptions for 20+ yards (10). Above and beyond that, Smith-Njigba leads the league with four receptions of 40+ yards–only six other players in the league have two; no other player has three or more. Ultimately, it wasn't enough to stop the Bucs from escaping with the 38-35 win, with kicker Chase McLaughlin converting the go-ahead field goal from 39 yards out. Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield posted an 87.9% completion percentage and 11.48 yards per attempt, leading an offense that capitalized on the Seahawks' secondary injuries and left Darnold and company with too little margin for error.

Seattle played without cornerback Devon Witherspoon (knee) or safety Julian Love (quadricep) in Week 5. Both players are still listed as doubtful ahead of Week 6, and are joined by cornerback Riq Woolen (concussion). The group that remains will need to play better regardless–it'll be extremely difficult for Darnold and the offense to put up a second historically efficient performance.
Jaguars 4-1 after dramatic MNF win over Chiefs
The Jacksonville Jaguars didn't play a perfect game against the Chiefs, but they did enough to come back–with a few big breaks–after falling into a 0-14 hole. The team burned most of the second quarter on a 15-play touchdown drive, overcoming a sack and a false start against tight end Brenton Strange to convert 3rd and 15 with help from a defensive holding penalty against cornerback Jaylen Watson. Of the 62 yards gained on the drive, 30 came from a pair of scrambles by quarterback Trevor Lawrence–who led the team with 54 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the ground by game's end.
Lawrence completed 18 of 25 passes for 221 yards, posting a 72% completion percentage and 8.84 yards per attempt, and found receiver Parker Washington for a three-yard touchdown on the team's critical second-quarter drive. His first rushing touchdown evened the score 14-14 in the third quarter; his second went for the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter, despite the play breaking down when Lawrence fell to the ground after right guard Patrick Mekari stepped on his foot. The Chiefs
At 4-1, the Jaguars are tied with the Colts for the best record in the AFC South and several other teams for the best record in the league. Their injury report is largely clean heading into Week 6, but starting center Robert Hainsey (hamstring) is listed as doubtful. The team also executed a player-for-player trade earlier in the week, shipping starting cornerback Tyson Campbell to Cleveland in exchange for cornerback Greg Newsome II. Campbell was in the first year of a lucrative four-year extension after completing his rookie contract in Jacksonville, and it isn't clear yet how the depth chart will shake out in his absence.
Seahawks vs Jaguars Pick
Spread Pick for Seahawks vs Jaguars
- Jaguars -1.0 (-105) (4 Units)
Both teams currently have -110 odds on the moneyline, and the spread couldn't be narrower in the Jaguars' favor. The Seahawks' offense has been wildly effective, but they'll be flying to Jacksonville from the far corner of the country and playing three time zones ahead, likely without three of five key starters in their secondary. Baker Mayfield had a historic day against this defense a week ago on their home turf without several top targets; I'm not rushing to bet on them to pull off a road win against the Jaguars, who somehow still feel overlooked despite their 4-1 start.
Over/Under Pick for Seahawks vs Jaguars
- Over 47.5 (-110) (5 Units)
The Seahawks' secondary isn't getting any votes of confidence ahead of this game, but it's hard to feel much better about the Jags' unit less than a week after they shipped off Campbell–a player who was paid handsomely this past offseason to be the Jags' best player at the position. The Team Total Over is 3-1 in each of these teams' past four games; I'd be surprised if either defense stepped up to stop it from hitting again.
