Buccaneers vs. Texans Prediction and Picks - September 15, 2025

Monday Night Football is seeing the Buccaneers travel to NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, for their Week 2 matchup against the Texans; keep reading for our Buccaneers versus Texans prediction. Tampa Bay is at the top of the NFC South with a record of 1-0. Houston is tied for third in the AFC South with a 0-1 record. Houston won their last meeting against the Texans in 2023 with a final score of 39-37. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EDT. If you need quality winners, this is the ultimate site for NFL Picks.

Buccaneers Hopes Offense Will Be Enough

The Buccaneers grabbed a win last week in their matchup against the Falcons with a final score of 23-20. This would kick off their season on a high note and due to the rest of their division losing week one, the Texans would grab the top of their division. Last season, the Buccaneers finished at the top of the NFC South and third in the NFC but fell to the Commanders in the NFC Wild Card Game 23-20.

Last season, the Buccaneers were known for their lethal offense but also their reliable run defense. Tampa Bay ranked fourth overall in rushing yards allowed last season and tenth overall in rushing yards averaged per carry at 4.3. However, where they failed last season and also this season is their pass defense. The Buccaneers were 30th last season in passing yards allowed and 31st in passing attempts made against them. This season has started no differently, with the Buccaneers allowing 298 passing yards to the Falcons in Week One, placing them 27th in the standings.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield looks to continue from his previous success at the helm of the Buccaneers.

Baker Mayfield:

  • has a passer rating of 99.3 with 167 yards and 3 touchdowns in 1 game this season.
  • had a passer rating of 106.8 with 4,500 yards, 41 touchdowns and 16 interceptions in 17 games in 2024.
  • has a passer rating of 95.2 with 1,007 yards, 4 touchdowns and 4 interceptions in 4 games against the Texans in his career.

Wide receiver Chris Godwin is listed as out for Monday’s game against the Texans due to an ankle injury.

Texans’ Offense Looking To Improve

The Texans are returning home after a loss last week to the Rams with a final score of 14-9. This loss would be a rough start to their season as they now sit at the bottom of their division. Houston last season finished first in the AFC South and fourth in the AFC but fell to the Chiefs 23-14 in an AFC divisional game.

Houston had one of the top defenses in the league last season in yards allowed, ranking sixth in total yards allowed. We saw what the Houston defense is capable of last week as they held the Rams to only 14 points and 296 total yards. The Texans, however, were unable to find much offense generating only nine points in their week one loss. Houston has a lot of talent on their offense but were unable to show much of it last season. Houston ended last season ranking 19th in points and 22nd in total yards. Houston will be aiming to find a good balance on offense as they face a weaker pass defense in the Buccaneers.

Quarterback C.J. Stroud will continue to develop as the starting quarterback for the Texans. He was sacked three times in the opener and pressured nearly half of the drop-backs.

C.J. Stroud:

  • has a passer rating of 74.3 with 188 yards and 1 interception in 1 game this season.
  • had a passer rating of 87.0 with 3,727 yards, 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 17 games in 2024.
  • has a passer rating of 147.8 with 470 yards and 5 touchdowns in 1 game against the Buccaneers in his career.

Wide-Receiver Christian Kirk is still listed as questionable for Monday’s game due to a hamstring injury.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Houston Texans Prediction and Pick

Money Line Pick for Bucs vs. Texans

  • Texans (-146) (4 units)

The Texans had a 5-1 record as favorites at home in 2024. Dating back to 2007 the Buccaneers are 0-5 against the Texans in their last five meetings. Houston is going to have a huge game much like they did in their last meeting against the Buccaneers in 2023. C.J. Stroud had five touchdowns and 470 yards against the Buccaneers and I do not believe much has changed for their team since then. Tampa Bay will be without Chris Godwin and Houston will have their rookie wide receiver Jayden Higgins which should be the difference maker in seeing the Texans grab an easier win then their last meeting.

Over/Under Pick for Buccaneers vs. Texans

  • Over 42.5 (-120 ) (5 units)

The Buccaneers had an over/under record of 3-1 as underdogs on the road in 2024. In the last meeting between these teams we saw a close win for the Texans with a final score of 39-37. We should expect another high scoring game similar to that one as both teams seem to struggle with their pass defense and excel in the pass. This game looks to be a very back and forth game with both teams looking to reclaim the top of their divisions from last season.
