Bucs Drop First Of The Season
Tampa Bay was unable to stay perfect, falling to Philadelphia. After being down 24-6 at the half, Tampa Bay rallied back, losing 31-25. Baker Mayfield continued to play well, tossing for two scores and an interception. The Bucs continue to struggle on third down and finished 3-13 last week. The defense held Philadelphia to just 200 yards of offense and logged two sacks.
Tampa Bay enters the season putting up 24.3 points per game, which ranks them 14th in the league. Their offense has shown flashes of balance, gaining 335.8 yards per game, which is right around the middle of the pack. The Bucs have struggled both on 3rd down and in the red zone. The absence of star WR Mike Evans will only put a further damper on the red zone offense. Baker has shown he can take care of the ball, and the offensive line has been able to protect him while also giving the run game a push. Moving the chains will be pivotal here.

- Yards Per Game: 335.8
- Points Per Game: 24.3
- Third Down Conversion Rate: 37.04%
On defense, Tampa Bay is allowing 24.3 points per game, which places them around 20th in the league. Opponents average 272.2 yards per game against them, which makes the Bucs a top-five defense in yards allowed. The run defense has been respectable, holding foes to around three yards per carry, but the pass game has been more problematic: opposing quarterbacks are completing passes at a high clip and gaining chunk plays through the air. The pass rush will need to provide enough of a push to let the second-level defenders play pass coverage.

Seahawks Win 3rd Straight
Seattle held off a late Cardinals rally to win its third straight game after losing their opener to San Francisco. The Seahawks continued to utilize their ground game, with Kenneth Walker (81 yards) and Zach Charbonnet (39 yards, 1 TD) leading the backfield. Sam Darnold was effective when needed and finished with 242 yards and a touchdown. The defense held Arizona to around 250 yards, came away with six sacks, and forced two interceptions.
Seattle enters the season riding momentum under head coach Mike Macdonald and OC Klint Kubiak, with Darnold under center. Offensively, the Seahawks are averaging 27.8 points per game, ranking 6th in the league. They are generating 332.3 total yards per game, placing them middle of the road. The passing attack has been a bright spot, as Darnold sits 7th in completion rate and first in yards per completion. Seattle is averaging 221.5 passing yards per contest, which ranks around 12th in the NFL. Third-down efficiency has been pretty middling, but an efficient Darnold can move the chains here.
Seattle Key Team Stats:
- Points Per Game: 27.8
- Total Yards Per Game: 332.3
- Third-Down Conversion Rate: 39.13%
On defense, Seattle has been particularly stout, allowing just 16.8 points per game, which ranks among the top two defenses in the league. Opponents are being held to roughly 90 rushing yards per game, placing Seattle 4th among defenses in limiting rush yardage. The Seahawks’ run defense has done a solid job in terms of not giving up chunk run plays. The secondary has also shown a nose for the football, with Seattle sitting 3rd in interception rate.
DE Demarcus Lawrence: Questionable, CB Devon Witherspoon: Questionable, S Julian Love: Questionable
Buccaneers vs. Seahawks Pick
Side Prediction for Buccaneers vs Seahawks
- Seattle -3.5 (4 Units)
The Seahawks' defense has been among the best in the league, and MacDonald will only get them sharper. Tampa Bay has struggled on 3rd downs this season, and without Evans and Irving, look for the Seahawks defense to take advantage. Lastly, when Darnold has needed to air it out, he has done so efficiently and effectively. Mayfield will get his, but he's also banged up as well and can only do so much with a lack of weapons against a gritty defense.
Seahawks -3.5
Total Prediction for Buccaneers vs Seahawks
- Under 45.5 (4 Units)
Seattle has certainly gone with a run-centric offense to start the season, and they'll look to do so again here. Tampa Bay has excelled in stopping the run, which will lead to a strength-on-strength matchup here. Look for both offenses to run into some firm opposition here.
